Lake McSwain, located in Snelling, CA just below Lake McClure, is a popular 300-acre reservoir known for consistent rainbow trout fishing and excellent family amenities. Stocked frequently by state and private hatcheries, McSwain offers reliable trout action from fall through late spring. Anglers do well from shore or boat using PowerBait, worms, spoons, or trolling setups—especially near the dam and inlet.

The lake also holds spotted and largemouth bass, bluegill, and occasional crappie, with peak action during warmer months. Catfish bite well in summer, especially in deeper areas near the inlet or at dusk using cut bait or chicken liver.
