West Medical Lake - Medical Lake, WA

Lake Information

Surface Area:235 acres
Maximum Depth:35 ft.
Elevation:2423 ft.
West Medical Lake, near the town of Medical Lake, is a seasonal, 235-acre fishery open from late April through September. It’s known for excellent rainbow trout action, especially in spring and early summer when WDFW stocks the lake with thousands of catchable-size and jumbo trout.

Opening day draws crowds, with anglers catching limits on PowerBait, worms, and salmon eggs. Boaters and float tubers often troll small spoons or wedding rings for consistent results. Fishing slows in midsummer as weeds grow thick, but mornings and deeper presentations continue to produce.

While some perch and bluegill are present, trout are the main focus. Access is excellent with a public launch and shoreline trails. Gas motors are not permitted, keeping the lake calm and ideal for kayaks or electric motorboats.

By late June, fish tend to hold deeper, and anglers using weighted lines or downriggers have the edge. Despite summer vegetation, it remains one of the area’s most consistent put-and-take fisheries.

West Medical’s manageable size, regular stocking, and quiet setting make it a go-to trout destination for Spokane-area anglers. Check WDFW regulations for current trout limits and seasonal changes before heading out.
