Flaming Gorge Reservoir, spanning Utah and Wyoming, is a world-renowned fishery offering trophy lake trout, kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, and smallmouth bass.

Lake trout are the headline species—many anglers pursue giants well over 20 pounds. They’re caught by deep trolling with downriggers, sinking lines, and spoons from 60–150 feet along structure and drop-offs.

Kokanee arrive in mid-summer, with dodger-hoochie rigs at 40–60 feet producing strong, spirited action. Rainbow trout—stocked and wild—feed actively near inlets and the river channel and are targeted with spoons and streamer flies on sinking lines.

Smallmouth bass take over shallow banks and riprap zones from May to August, where crankbaits, tubes, and spinnerbaits work well. Walleye and perch are available but less targeted.

Winter opens ice-fishing opportunities for lake trout and yellow perch. Marina infrastructure, boat ramps, campgrounds, and lodges support comfortable outings, though wind can build midday, so early starts are recommended.

Regulations for lake trout size limits and kokanee tags are enforced—check current state guidelines.

For anglers chasing giants and variety in a stunning canyon reservoir, Flaming Gorge delivers unforgettable fishing year-round.
