Ashurst Lake - Flagstaff, AZ

Lake Information

Surface Area:229 acres
Maximum Depth:15+ ft.
Elevation:7113 ft.
Ashurst Lake, situated at 7,100 feet elevation southeast of Flagstaff, is one of northern Arizona’s most consistent and accessible trout fisheries. It covers 230 acres and retains water better than other Rim lakes, ensuring productive fishing from spring through fall.

The lake is heavily stocked with rainbow trout from April through September. PowerBait, worms, and salmon eggs are reliable, while fly anglers score with nymphs and streamers. Brown trout, though less abundant, offer larger fish and respond to spoons, crankbaits, and larger flies, particularly in the fall.

Ashurst has excellent shoreline access, making it ideal for bank anglers and families. Boats are allowed with electric motors only, and float tubes are frequently used by fly fishers. Facilities include campgrounds, toilets, and picnic areas.

With clear water, scenic pine forest surroundings, and mild summer temperatures, Ashurst provides an exceptional outdoor angling experience. Its reliable water levels and frequent trout stocking make it one of the top fishing destinations in northern Arizona.
