Good fishing happening in the mornings on the Truckee River.

We’ve had a bit of a break from the oppressive afternoon heat of the last few weeks. Afternoon t-storms have been popping up around Tahoe and down into Reno. Flows have remained very good, and the fishing is good.

Not much change. Trouts are in the faster water most of the day. They be eating crayfish, stoneflies, caddis, and smaller mayflies. If you can read the summertime type water, wade through it, and fish it correctly, you’re gonna catch some fish. Of course everyday is different, and every section of river fishes a  little different, day to day. For the most part, you can find good slotted fast water almost the entire length of the Truckee River. Tight line nymphing is really the way to go. I’ve taught a lot of folks how to do it, and they’re crushing it now. It’s just a more intuitive way to nymph. Most of the other anglers I see on the river are all doing it now. Damn, everyones too good these days with that rig. Hard to fish behind guys these days.
