Truckee River

The Truckee River is flowing around 190cfs  through the downtown gauge. The trout are moving into slower water, and actively feeding during the warmer temperatures. Fly selection is small, 18s and below are my go to nymphs.

As the seasons change so does bug size and color. In the winter, bugs shrink and are typically darker. As the water warms in the spring bug species are typically larger and more colorful. That being said, small midge and mayfly patterns are most often the best choice. And for those who like to peg beads to imitate eggs, trout beads with blood spots are the way to go.

Flies: Black BH Zebra Midge 18-20, Olive Psycho May, Ready Baetis, Hot Butt, Truckee River Dozen
