Hot.

Bit of a heat wave here on the Truckee River. 90’s in Truckee, 100’s in Reno. That’s kinda the deal now. Nice cool mornings, and hot afternoons.

Get your fishing in, in the mornings. It’s always the best time. You’ll get a good window from sun-up to about noon.

We have some water coming out of Boca now. Around 550, cfs, here in Hirschdale, 700 at Farad, and around 500 cfs in Reno. Purrrrfect flows. Great wading flows.

Get them flies on the bottom. Fast oxygenated pocket water, heads of runs, deep riffles. You should have crayfish, caddis, stoneflies, and mayflies. Flies really don’t matter too much. Get your flies in the zone. They’ll eat a hare’s ear, p.t., copper john, birds nest. Aww, the old bird’s nest. Cal Birds fly works as good today as it did back then. Just get it in the right water. Do not forget the crayfish. These trout binge on them all summer long. You don’t need the big bunny strip, jaw dropping killer looking fly you see at the shop in the bin. Just something that will sink and halfway resembles a crayfish. You think these trout want a perdigon when they can eat a crayfish?

Euro nymphing will be your best rig this time of year. You can get in all those nook and crannys. Bobbers work too, but it would not be my preferred rig unless I was fishing slower later very early in the mornings. One that sun comes up, them fish are moving. The streamer fishing will work if you can cover water in low light.
