Topaz Lake Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Weekend fishing was very good but a wind came up early in the week and slowed down the action. A group of 43 anglers from Modesto fished the weekend and many had limits. The largest fish were two pounds. The south end along the rocks is providing the best action. Topaz Marina (775) 266-3550

Topaz Lake Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Fishing has been very good here. Trout are scattered all over the lake but the south end has been especially productive. Best bite is 15 feet below the surface. Nightcrawlers and flashers work well as do trolled Rapalas. Trout are averaging just under two pounds. Shore anglers don’t do as well as boaters, but the south end is out-producing the north. East Carson River Fish Report

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
Flows are fluctuating daily due to run off. Colder weather over the next week should help a bit but it is only a matter of a week or so until the East Carson starts to yo-yo up and down until the snow melts. The best fishing on the East Carson will be after the runoff and the river comes back down to fishable levels. Keep

East Carson River Fishing Report

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
The East Carson River is the most susceptible river in our area to run-off. The flows are currently 131 CFS, but they have been really going up and down. With the air temps headed for the 60\'s this week, the East Carson will likely be un-fishable. The best fishing on the East Carson is on the back side of the run-off. This year that is

Flows are down to 54 cfs and dropping. The dry fly fishing is phenomenal right now. Big dries are catching fish all over. Stimulator, hoppers, stoneflies and just about any dry in the size 8 to 12 size frame are worth a shot. The water is crystal clear and the bigger fish are hard to fool but the smaller fish are chowing. You can use

Flows are down to 70 cfs. Not bad for mid August. It has been fishing well. Nymphing with golden stones or crayfish patterns and a smaller dropper like a caddis or midge pupa. Hopper and golden stone dries are working and can be fished alone or as a hopper dropper setup for sure. Mornings are the best here as well.

Flows are dropping fast. They are down to 166 CFS and dropping daily. The East Carson is the closest thing in the area to a freestone river and the snowpack is all but gone. The river is in great shape and the fishing has been pretty good. Nymphing with small golden stone nymphs and a smaller dropper such as a micro mayfly, hbi\'s or

Flows are dropping fast and are down to 360 CFS. This is absolutely perfect. Fishing should be really good for the next few weeks. Nymphing with caddis, golden stones, midge pupa and little yellow stones are the usual for this time of year. The evening dry fly activity is also worth staying for.

Flows are down to 570 cfs. It is dropping fast. The next few weeks should be really good on the East Carson. Usually this time of year nymphing with golden stones and a caddis dropper during the day works well. As the water comes down the dry dropper set up will be worth a try as well. Today I fished with my brother in law and nephew at Topaz Lake. The fishing was very slow in the AM. But as the day warmed up so did the fishing. We ended up with two nice fish and we lost one at the boat. Pictured here is my nephew Anthony Allegretti with a nice 16' rainbow trout caught on a

Flows are down to 36 CFS. It is starting to get really low and clear. The fish are spooky and hard to catch. For best results fish the deeper pools and wear camoflage type clothing. When the East Carson gets this low it is very important to be stealthy. Hopper Dropper set - ups are the way to go here as well.

Flows are 64 CFS. They have come up some over the past few days. Fishing has been decent. The water is clear and the fish are spooky. It is a must to be stealthy and take your time approaching holes. Hopper dropper set ups is the best way to get your flies in front of fish. Use pretty much the same flies as on the

Flows are 134 cfs. Flows are dropping daily. It got a boost from a rain storm a few days ago but it is now dropping again. Nymphing has been very effective in the mornings and evenings. Golden Stones, Tricos, Caddis and Little Yellow Stones are in the system right now. Dry dropper techniques are also worth shot.

Flows are dropping fast. Currently they are 283 CFS. This is a great flow but it is dropping so fast that the fish are a little spooky. Evenings have been producing some dry fly activity. Dry dropper set-ups have been working during the day.

Flows are still in the 700 cfs range. If you look at the flow chart the water is still going up and down about 100 cfs a day. It is probably fish able but with so much else to do wait another week or so to hit the East Carson.

North Shore: Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): We are catching limits or close to limits on every trip. We have been trolling 60-220 feet deep. We locate the fish on the fish finder and then troll Dodgers and a live minnow in a "Figure Eight" pattern, bouncing the bottom. I've been fishing at Cal Neva and Dollar

Chuck and Linda Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): We have one boat out on the lake today (Tuesday) and it is breezy. We saw some nice fish (1-1.5 pounds) over the weekend, all from boats. They have been trolling Rapalas, Needlefish and flashers with nightcrawlers. One boat caught 8 fish in one hour on the east side with Needlefish lures.

The bite is doing good. Troll out in front of Sand Harbor where the shelf drops off, this has been good fishing down about 90 feet. Small baits like #9 rappalas will work well. Also try the Tavern Hole run out in front of Tahoe City. Fish from 90 to 140 feet. The rainbow bite is on close to shore they are doing there spawning
