Lake Tahoe Fish Report

Kokanee fishing is very good in the southwest portion of the lake. Find them 75 to 85 feet deep. Some are turning red. Lake trout are taking 3-1/2 ounce jigs from 120 to 160 feet deep in front of the South Shore Casinos, Camp Richardson and Emerald Bay. Most are three to six pounds but some are much larger. East Carson River Fishing Report

This is normal for this time of year and just about perfect. The hoppers are starting to show here as well. Hopper dropper set-ups are the way to go as we get into the fall and lower water levels. As the water gets lower a more stealthy approach is also going to be necessary. Make sure you drift the edges and the shallows before marching

East Carson River Fishing Report

The flows are dropping fast. On Tuesday morning they were 126 CFS. This is the time to go before the water gets really low. Hopper Dropper set-ups have been working well. You can use the same type of bugs as in the East Walker report. Mornings and evenings have been best. There has also been a Caddis and Little Yellow Stone hatch in the evenings

Last week has been slow but the bite turned back on Wednesday. Mickey Daniels had 10 mackinaw to four pounds, breaking a slow streak. Most were taken in 60 to 100 feet of water but some were as deep as 300 feet. Sting Kings worked best. (530) 546-4444; 530-412-1800

Trout fishing turned on for those still fishing on the east side of the lake near the mouth of the inlet. Nightcrawlers and Power Bait fished in 20 to 25 feet of water get rainbows to two and three pounds are being caught. The largemouth bass bite is just starting. The lake is full so there is no shore access. Boat rentals are available.  (775)

The lake is near capacity and there is a lot of floating debris in the water. The south end is muddy. Baitfishing has been OK in the southwest corner. (775) 266-3550

This lake has risen almost eight feet in the last week. In addition to the water there is additional mud and debris in the lake. It may take a week to settle and then anglers will have to find the fish. (775) 266-3550

Folks at the Marina called this the slowest Memorial Day in 18 years. There were never more than 10 boats on the water during a weekend that normally attracted more than 100 boats. Those who trolled 25 feet deep picked up 2-3 fish.  Shore pressure was light Water is warming and fish are going a bit deeper. (775) 266-3550

Flows are up to 1300 CFS. They have gone up and down over the past few weeks due to changing weather conditions. The air temps are only getting warmer so look for the flows to remain in the unfishable range for at least another week or so.

Runoff has the East Carson at unfishable levels at 1230 CFS. Wait at least a couple of weeks or more and check the reports again.

The southwest shore has been the hot spot. Dough baits and nightcrawlers work well. Trollers are working along the shoreline with flashers and nightcrawlers. Trout are in the one- to two-pound range and a lot of limits. No big fish of late.  (775) 266-3550

Fishing continues to be good for mackinaw in the early morning despite the snow. Wind has been a demon. Surface temperature is 43 degrees. It needs to get into the 50s for a solid rainbow trout top water bite. (530) 546-4444

Charter boat operator Mickey Daniels went out Sunday along the north shore and had three limits of mackinaw to six pounds. Macks are scattered from 60-feet to 300-feet. Topliners are doing well for rainbow trout. (530) 546-4444
