Mackinaw fishing has been good for those who have been trolling deep at about 200 feet.

Western Region Biologist Reid Varble reports fishing has slowed down, but some action is good toward the mouth of the river. Boat anglers should try trolling in this area. Trollers are using Repala's in brown and silver colors. Also some are catching trolling a Worm Harness. Bank fishermen have been successful using powerbait in orange color.

Spooner has been fishing well bank anglers report success in areas clear of weeds. Try getting out into the middle of the lake for more action. Castmasters and Blue Foxes have worked well. Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Fishing last weekend was the best I've ever seen here. Joshua Hammitt, age 6, of Galt, Calif. caught a 4-pounder and a 3.2 pounder. His sister, Victoria, age 8, caught a 4.9 pounder. Their fish were caught on nightcrawlers on May 27. Dave Kirby: The river had a plant of 1,000 pounds of rainbows on Wednesday by Alpine County. There were lots of people at every hole where they planted. Those holes are probably fished out by now.

Gene St. Denis: Fishing has been good early in the mornings. I've been fishing 50-200 feet deep at Ski Run Shelf. Trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and minnows. Bouncing off the bottom in a serpentine pattern. We caught browns 5-7 pounds and Mackinaw 7-14 pounds.

I think it is probably due to a combination of high gas prices and the Topaz Lodge being closed. The trollers (Needlefish lures) and still fishermen (nightcrawlers) did good

Flows are fluctuating between 400 and 500 cfs. Fluctuations are vey typical for this time of year due to run-off. As the peaks and the valleys of the fluctuations start to get closer together the fishing really takes off. Gene St. Denis: I've been fishing 25-160 feet deep at Ski Run Shelf and the Tahoe Keys Shelf. Trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and large lures. The Macks have been running 2-5 pounds. A 10--pound, 7-ounce (31 inches) brown in 80 feet of water at the Tahoe Keys Shelf on a Dodger and minnow. Lots of jiggers at Ski Run Mound. ?Į

Chuck and Linda Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): On Sunday, Ricky Howard of Coleville caught a 6-pound, 6-ounce Largemouth Bass from shore on the south end with a Rapala lure. On Friday, Joe Buffo of Minden caught a 3-pound, 14-ounce rainbow while trolling at the south end with flashers and a nightcrawler. Sunday, two other boat anglers reported limits of average size rainbows.

The Mack bite is still going good. Fish are being caught out in the Tavern Hole area in front of Tahoe City. The best depth is 140 feet. Early morning is the best time. Try a broken back Rapala in black/white.

Chuck and Linda Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): The water level is starting to drop already. It was pretty slow over the weekend, with not a lot of people. I only saw 5 boats all weekend plus a couple of shore fishermen. We are starting to get jet skis and water skiers now.
