Elko County Fish Reports

Ice growth has been extremely slow to nearly nonexistent at South Fork Reservoir this year. Earlier this week, after the cold front, State Park staff reported 4″-5″ of ice along the southwest shorelines. These conditions are expected to change very quickly, especially with the warmer daytime temps and rain forecasted this weekend. We do not recommend accessing the ice at this time.

Ice Update: Good news! Areas off of Coyote Cove and Jet Ski Beach on the southwest shoreline, as well as some of the coves on the east side are measuring 4-5 inches, and are considered sufficient for foot travel. Pay close attention as there are many pressure ridges around the lake, and ice thins the further you get from shore. Always do an assessment of current conditions

Ice Update! Currently we are averaging 5 inches around the boat dock! However, there still is portions of the reservoir with open water. So please check the ice if you choose to go out on it. State Park staff is reporting 5″ of ice in holes sampled near the boat launch. Be advised, this is glare ice, and is extremely slippery. Anglers are reporting ice measuring up to 10″ in some of the coves of the Hendricks arm and Penrod arm. Ice thickness is variable across the reservoir and conditions can change daily. Ice Update: South Fork is almost entirely frozen over, with a relatively thin "skin" of ice, measuring 1-2 inches at its thickest points. At this time, the lake is NOT considered safe for ice fishing. There also does not appear to be any spots along the shore currently for open water fishing access. South Fork is almost entirely frozen over, with a very thin layer of ice measuring only 1 to 2 inches at most. These conditions are NOT safe for ice fishing. There is no accessible open water to fish at this time.

It is a beautiful morning here on Wildhorse Reservoir and we have some great news! The area that had open water last week now has nice clear ice! Today was a GREAT DAY out at the Untamed Pony! The day started out slow but boy oh Golly did it pick right up after a few location changes ! • 6 Large TROUT !!! Smallest was ONE 22 incher. •64 PERCH • 3 Small Mouth bass Ice Update : most of the north side from hendricks north into canyon has solid ice 11- 13 inches. !

Ice is beginning to form on the open water areas! We are going to give it a few more days before trying to get measurements, but it has been getting thicker each night for the past few nights!

This week's fishing report said South Fork was wide open for shore fishing. The past few nights have frozen much of the lake and first thing this morning there was little to no shore fishing until late morning when some water opened up along Jet Ski Beach. With the forecast cold temperatures for this weekend, expect limited if any open water at South Fork. Maybe

The reservoir is ~85% frozen with the center still open water or some skim ice. Ice is measuring ~4″ close to the dam and the road, but should still be conisdered unsafe.

Wildhorse update: The ice was 8-12” thick where we were at. Stay clear of the main boat ramp and a few points where there are still pockets of open water. Perch are starting to make a comeback and holding in deeper water. Trout are hanging out in shallow water anywhere from 5-10”.

There are still pockets of open water throughout the reservoir, and existing ice should be considered unsafe at this time. There is limited shoreline access near the boat ramp and in the coves.
