24 Inches of Ice, Slush and Snow

There is approximately a combined 24 inches of ice, slush and snow. With the warmer weather next week expect the slush to increase so go prepared with good boots. Almost Completely Ice Free

South Fork Reservoir

South Fork is almost completely ice free and should be completely ice free by the end of next week with the warmer temperatures. Fishing has been slow to fair, though occasionally anglers report catching a half dozen fish in shallow (3 feet deep) water near shore. Nevada angler John Shorter III has proved yellow perch are making a comeback in Wildhorse Reservoir after tying a record that has been held for more than 30 years. Fishing for Trout Appears to Still be Good

Wildhorse is covered with 14 to 16 inches of ice with some snow on top. There are a very few areas with just a bit of slush, but not enough to worry about. Fishing for trout appears to still be good, with perch fishing being quite variable. Good one day and poor the next. The trick for trout seems to be in fairly shallow water

South Fork has about seven to 10 inches of ice with some open water near the inlet at the south end of the lake. As of Wednesday, there was snow on the ice making it much safer to navigate than last week when it was very slick. Fishing is still slow to fair. The cold weather has covered about 75% of South Fork with ice, though as of Thursday, December 13, there was open water along Jet Ski Beach for fishing. Wildhorse Reservoir Fishing Report

Wild Horse Reservoir

Wildhorse is covered with four to five inches of ice as of Thursday, Dec. 13. However, as you get further from shore, the ice gets thinner, so don’t venture too far out just yet. Anglers were catching 16 to 19 inch fish using a variety of presentations through the ice near the bridge by the highway. Worms, PowerBait and jigging were all working on Thursday.
