Pyramid is still fishing solid, with decent numbers of fish already cruising the shorelines

by THE FLY SHOP
Pyramid is still fishing solid, with decent numbers of fish already cruising the shorelines. Indicator nymphing with Balanced Leeches and midges has been especially successful, as has stripping Popcorn Beetles, Midnight Cowboys, or Pyramid Minnows. Numerous large fish have already been landed this year, and the fishing has been noticeably more consistent than at this time last season! Now’s the perfect time to head out

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While the bite may have slowed a little bit this week with cold sunny days following a significant drop in lake temps, we have personally seen multiple 20 pound fish caught in the last week by fellow Pyramid junkies.  When the lake gets glassy and the sun is high, the use of sinking lines and smaller flies such as boobies or beetles can be a great

The Truckee River has been benefiting from these warmer days this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee River has been benefiting from these warmer days this week and the fishing has improved considerably compared to last week, when temps were getting just above freezing most days. The one thing these sunny days haven’t helped with is the streamer bite though, which tends to be a bit tougher during days of high sun. But it’s still worth putting some time into

Breaking a cold snap on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Still very cold at night, but warming up some in the afternoons. Will probably stay like this until we get some weather again, maybe mid-month. Good news, flows are really great for December. Typically the river is pretty low around now. 430 cfs, and over 500 out East is really good for us.  What's that mean for fishing? Well, nymphing you'll always get some. Streamer fishing

So far this season has been nothing short of fantastic

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
I know you’ve heard us say it over the last few weeks, but so far this season has been nothing short of fantastic. We are hearing “The best November ever” thrown around a bit and we have a hard time disagreeing. Most of the employees in the shop have been getting out on a weekly basis and have been consistently landing fish over 15 pounds

The Truckee River continues to fish well

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee River continues to fish well as most of the brown trout finish their spawn and look to recover lost calories. During the overcast days of last week, we saw a fair streamer bite for those willing to put in time. As well as some good dry fly-fishing east of Sparks. With the subfreezing temps in the mornings, the fishing will be best after

November Has Been Legendary

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
LAKE CONDITIONS November has certainly been a hallmark of fall. Cold mornings, reasonably mild days, and the chilly storm patterns of course. Wind patterns have definitely ticked up a bit, so we are experiencing some of that classic Pyramid behavior that we all have come to love. Best part is, that the fish have been very cooperative, and healthy sizes to boot. So, with that being

The shore bite is picking up with the open storm door

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
At Pyramid Lake, the shore bite is picking up with the open storm door. Anglers are catching some big fish this year. The water levels at Pyramid Lake are currently at 95% capacity.

The water flows are good, and there are some hatches of blue-winged olives and midges

by MOUNTAIN LAKES RESORT
Water Conditions The Truckee River has slightly discolored water due to recent rain. Overall, the water flows are good, and there are some hatches of blue-winged olives and midges. The weather has been consistently cold and snowy over the past week. While mornings will continue to be cold, the afternoons are expected to warm up a bit in the upcoming week. 75 CFS is out of

Absolutely Incredible Fishing!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
This November has been one of the best in a long time or possibly ever. The number of fish above 10 pounds is mind-boggling, and now only if it’s above 15 does it feel worth mentioning. Absolutely incredible. What’s more, most of the beaches are fishing almost equally as well, making your odds of finding good fishing even better!  Both the indicator bite and the strip

Fair fishing this week on the Truckee

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee River has been seeing some fair fishing this week. The cooler weather this week has seemed to reduce the number of fish willing to play but has upped the average size with some really nice fish hitting the net this week. The fish have mostly transitioned into slower water at this point and the majority of your focus should be in the seams

This time of year brings in the larger rainbows and lake trout

by DOUG BUSEY
This time of year brings in the larger rainbows and lake trout. The Ski Run area to Emerald Bay in 25 to 35 feet of water has been productive using big rap baits.  Some anglers have gone deeper off the Tahoe City shelf using a dodger and a live minnow. For more information contact Tahoe Sport fishing.

Fishing is excellent in the winter months

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake is open all year long now, for those that have not heard. Fishing is excellent in the winter months. I troll with an F3 or an F5 Rapala in a hot steel or gold and black pattern. I also use a lead line with a 30 ft leader of 8 lb clear blue Stren line with a small snap on the end, without

Open to fishing all year

by DOUG BUSEY
Open to fishing all year for lures, flys and bait anglers.

Fantastic Reports this Month!

by THE FLY SHOP
The reports from the salty pond have been fantastic this month, with good number of fish already cruising the shorelines. Now’s

Fishing Will Be Good on the Truckee!

by MATT KOLES
Winter fly fishing on the Truckee River.  Cold at night, not too bad during the days. Frog water time. Fish water that's about 2-5 feet deep. Slow walking pace water. My favorite way to cover that water is with a streamer. Winter, we catch most of our biggest fish on the Truckee River. That and Spring.  The water will be warmer and the fishing typically better down on the

Lots of action with nymphs and still a little action with streamers as well

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
Well, that’s a wrap. The regular season is now closed until April 26, 2025. The Nevada side of the EW is still open all year long and as of late has been fishing pretty well, there is lots of action with nymphs and still a little action with streamers as well. The Sceirine section, Rosachi section and the Elbow section are all open. The weather

It’s been an interesting year from shore already

by RENO FLY SHOP
It’s been an interesting year from shore already. We are catching fish in much shallower water than in previous years. Typically the LCT are down in 12-15 feet of water this time of year, but we have caught quite a few fish in 6-8 feet of water. The indicator bite has also been good this early season, which is also atypical. To round out the

Colder storms have really dropped the river temperature

by RENO FLY SHOP
The brown trout spawn seems to be winding down (at least in town) on the Truckee River. We have seen quite a few redds that no longer have fish on them. Interestingly, the streamer bite seems to have turned back on with larger browns becoming players again. Colder storms have really dropped the river temperature. Just recently the temp bottomed out at 41 degrees (Sparks Gage)

Large and smallmouth were located a bit deeper on points and bluff walls

by CHAD BURTON AND CHRIS BORDEN
Pyramid Lake remained at full pool, and water temperatures were near the mid-sixties. High winds made for challenging conditions early in the week. Luckily weather conditions improved. Large and smallmouth were located a bit deeper on points and bluff walls. Drop shot, Ned rigs, and grubs in Aaron’s Magic, Orange Crush, and Margarita Mutilator worked for bites. The deep diving crankbait bite should materialize soon.

Head Out ASAP for Pyramid Lake Trophy!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We stand by what we said last week, November is the new March! If you’re after a Pyramid Lake trophy, then you should be heading out here ASAP! The number of large fish seen this already this year, let alone this week has been exceptional. Even better, the crowds that this lake has become known for have been relatively non-existent lately and give you some

The River Continues to Kick Out Great Fish!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The main river continues to kick out some great fishing this week as the browns begin to finish up spawn and the post spawn bite starts up. This is when fishing streamers will really pick up, especially with the mix of overcast days in the forecast and the fish beginning to transition into tail outs. As is typical for this river, especially this time of
