Just takes one big storm cycle

by MATT KOLES
Just takes one big storm cycle. Now we’re sitting at about 150 % of average snowfall for the Truckee River drainage. Of course we need more, and next week looks to provide some more rain and snow. It’s amazing how quick things can change in Tahoe. Can we get out of the drought? There’s a good possibility we can. Every friggin meteorologist painted a doom and

Let The Games Begin

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
The large Pilots have been lurking the shallows a bit more the last few days with the lack of high pressure. These storm systems are dropping the shore temps as quick as can be and the bigger fish we are all after are hunting those ledges and looking for food as they continue bulking up on bait fish. Some recommended flies for the Truckee River are san juan worms, small blue winged olives, small dry flies, or small midges size 18-20. Some other areas to try on the river are near Floriston and Farad. Use the same small flies, with light tippet and an indicator. FLOWS: Tahoe City

The calm before the storm on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
The calm before the storm on the Truckee River. It just takes one big storm cycle for us to get back in the drivers seat. Things were pretty bleak, snow wise, back in November. Mother Nature saved us back in October, and she looks to do it again next week. A little cold duster yesterday, and now cold temps and definitely feeling like a Truckee December.

by BEARFISH ALLIANCE STAFF
It’s still a challenge, but well worth the effort out at the salty pond. That switch hasn’t flipped yet, but you will find cruisers popping into the strike zone from time to time. Seems like the early mornings and late afternoons are best, however you will find a random grab or two throughout the day. We favor chasing them with streamers (The Yak seems to

With the low flows it’s best to try small midge and nymph patterns

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The California side of the EW is closed until April 30, 2022 I haven’t heard much from the Nevada side of the EW, just 1 or 2 reports that were just ok. This time of the year with the low flows it’s best to try small midge and nymph patterns and focus on the deeper pools and runs where there will be more fish hanging out.
