Wildhorse update

Wildhorse update: The ice was 8-12” thick where we were at. Stay clear of the main boat ramp and a few points where there are still pockets of open water. Perch are starting to make a comeback and holding in deeper water. Trout are hanging out in shallow water anywhere from 5-10”.

For more information on Cave Lake, please contact the NDOW Ely Field Office. As the water level rises, the public should not attempt to access the ice on the lake.

Ice is unsafe on both the north and south lakes. The reservoir has a combination of open water and poor ice. There is limited shoreline access. If anglers attempt to fish the open water from shore, a mix of spinners, nightcrawlers, PowerBait, and a fly behind a bubble should catch fish. Trout from 8 inches to 18 inches are being caught. Illipah Reservoir is sitting at approximately 45 percent ice covered

Illipah Reservoir is sitting at approximately 45% ice covered.  There is open water along the western shoreline, that should provide anglers the opportunity to fish.  All ice should be considered unsafe and will likely remain unsafe until we get another cold snap.  A total of 9,012 rainbow trout averaging 9.3 inches were stocked this fall.

South Fork Ice Update

Most areas of the shore now have open water, with ice in some of the coves and a few large pieces floating in the lake. In other words...Safe for Eagles...NOT Safe for People. Reservoir is beginning to ice up and the boat ramp has been pulled. Snow has fallen and more is forecasted within the next week, but warm afternoon temps are keeping the reservoir from completely icing up. Ice conditions are fluctuating daily, and all ice should be considered unsafe at this time.
