Ruby Lake NWR Updates

Water levels have started to drop, but are still allowing for easy launching at the main boat ramp and Narcisse ramp, although weeds are quickly increasing. Non-motorized boats and boats propelled by gas motors 10hp or less are permitted August 1-December 31. Fishing is good for bass, with 10-15 undersized per keeper. Unit 21 and the Brown Dike also continue to be good for bass.

Fishing Has Slowed at the Ruby Lake Collection Ditch

Fishing in the collection ditch has slowed due to increased water temperatures. Stocked fish include rainbow, tiger and brown trout. Special Regulations: Artificial lures only, no wading.

Reservoir Remains Under a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Watch

As of 07/25/24 Wild Horse Reservoir remains under a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) watch.  Fishing has slowed a bit with rising temperatures; however, anglers are still reporting good fishing for trout and bass. Anglers are also reporting marking large schools of yellow perch in the deeper water areas with flats near the channel.    

Fair Trout Fishing and Good Bass Fishing at South Fork Reservoir

As of 07/25/24 South Fork Reservoir remains under a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) watch.  Vegetation growth is increasing with the high temperatures. Fishing for trout is fair, with anglers from boats in deeper water having the most luck. Fishing for bass is good, with most anglers targeting weedy points and coves. Catfish are also active, with anglers having some luck from shore using shrimp.

Cave Lake Updates

Anglers Report Good Trout Fishing

Cold Creek Reservoir is at 85% capacity. Anglers report Rainbow Trout and Tiger Trout being caught in the 10-12” range. A total of 1,002 Rainbow Trout averaging 9” were stocked this spring. There is potential for some trout to be larger, however, their growth patterns are still recovering after the 2021 draw down of the reservoir to fix the outlet structure.  Anglers will do well

Anglers Continue to Have Good Luck

Surface water temperatures have been holding steady at 68-70 degrees. Recent angler activity has produced Rainbow Trout in the 20” range, although fishing has been slow for trout due to warm water temperatures. Approximately 7,000 Rainbow Trout averaging 9” in length were stocked this spring. Nightcrawlers as well as spinner lures, woolly buggers, scud patterns, and midge patterns should continue to produce trout for anglers. 

Water Level Still in Good Shape

The water level at Illipah Reservoir is still in good shape, compared to historic water use. Water temperatures are similar to Comins Lake, sitting between 68-70 degrees.  With warmer water temperatures, anglers are encouraged to fish the early morning and evening hours to reduce stress on trout.  Anglers should do well on nightcrawlers, PowerBait, spinners and wet flies behind a water bubble. Jakes Creek Reservoir is full.  Anglers are having fair to good luck catching 13 to 18 inch trout from the shore, boat, or float tube. Channel catfish were stocked 5/23/24. Bass fishing is fair to good for fish in the 10″-12″ range.

Trout fishing should be fair to good in the pond behind the hatchery and near the main boat landing. Panther Martins, Kastmasters and spinners are recommended. Angel Lake Fishing Report

The road to Angel Lake is open all the way to the top. Anglers are having luck throwing green PowerBait and small trout spinners off the dam. Fly anglers paddling float tubes or kayaks near the rock walls are catching trout on small ant and leech patterns.

As of 7/15 Wildhorse Reservoir is under a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) watch. Fishing is excellent for trout. Trolling, bait fishing, and fly fishing with midges and balanced leaches under indicators have all been great. Trout up to 6-7 pounds are being caught. South Fork Reservoir Fishing Report
