The boat ramp is officially open and the dock is in the water. Clarity at the south end of the lake is poor due to snowmelt running in at the inlet. Action for shoreline anglers has slowed since March. Most anglers are having luck fishing near the dam, catching rainbow trout in the 15″-18” range. Anglers should fish the shallows, where the water is warmer.

There are areas opening up north and south

We receive a lot of questions regarding open water for shore fishing. There are areas opening up north and south of us that you can fish from the shore. These areas are on tribal property and their fees apply.

The bass are starting to bite!

Just a reminder, all bass (large-mouth, small-mouth, and wipers) are catch and release through June 30th. Beginning July 1st, you are permitted to keep one bass of any type, measuring 15 inches or larger. Cutbow was caught downstream of the dam. Be safe and have fun out there.  

🚨 Ice update 🚨

As we enter spring, the ice on the reservoir will begin melting at an accelerated rate. We have attached a few photos with different locations around the reservoir in which water has been exposed. We will no longer be providing ice thickness updates due to safety concerns. We do not recommend ice fishing on the reservoir at this time due to thinner ice levels. We

Increased flows are resulting in turbid water above the reservoir

Anglers are experiencing better conditions below the dam, catching trout  over 14″.  Streamers and leeches are working for fly anglers. Spincasters are having luck with small spinners.  Expect soft and muddy banks with upcoming precipitation in the forecast. Special Regulation: Artificial lures with single barbless hooks only above the Lucky Nugget causeway. Limit of 1

Unsafe ice at this time. Stay off any remaining ice during the ice off period. Expect soft and muddy shorelines. Some open water is accesible near the inlet. Once open water fishing becomes accessible for more of the reservoir, anglers can expect good fishing for trout in the 9″ range.

Jiggs Reservoir is ice free

Jiggs Reservoir is ice free. Expect muddy conditions along the shorelines with upcoming precipitatoin in the forecast. Fishing should be fair to good for trout in the 10″ range. Try worms, spinners, and PowerBait near the bottom.

The South Lake has unsafe ice

The county road going out is muddy and expected to stay that way with the warm temperatures.  Harrison Pass remains closed. The South Lake has unsafe ice, which applies to all ice at the Refuge. See report for Ruby Lake Collection Ditch.

Expect another week or so of suitable ice fishing conditions

As of 03/19/24, officials at the State Park measured an average 12″ of ice near the boat ramp, with the edges of the reservoir just beginning to soften. Expect another week or so of suitable ice fishing conditions before we transition to the ice off. Remember, ice thickness is variable throughout the reservoir. Always sample the ice for yourself and come prepared with safety equipment.

Shoreline anglers should  expect good catch rates with rainbow trout averaging 9″ to 10″ when using worms, PowerBait, and small spinners.

Fishing should be fair just below the dam

As of 03/21, the East Fork of the Owyhee below the dam was flowing at 3.04 cfs while at the gage at Mountain City is showing 307 cfs. Fishing should be fair just below the dam down to the Beaver Creek access point.

Anglers are having success landing brown trout and rainbow trout

As of 03/06, the Tenmile gage (above South Fork Reservoir) is showing 100 cfs, while the Dixie Creek gage below is showing 111 cfs. Anglers are having success landing brown trout and rainbow trout when swinging streamers, leeches and spinners from the banks.  Special Regulation: Artificial lures with single barbless hooks only above the Lucky Nugget causeway. Limit of 1 trout.
