Eastern Nevada Fish Reports

Edges & Surface Are Soft

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Illipah has approximately 10 inches of ice but the edges and surface are soft.  Like Comins, please use caution when getting on and off the ice.  ATV’s are not recommended to be on the ice.  Fishing has been fair to good.   Black or olive jigs tipped with worms jigged slowly have been working as have just hooks with a worm or PowerBait.

Ice Has Been Receding With Recent Warmer Temps

by SOUTH FORK STATE REC. AREA
The ice is receding as the weather starts to get slightly warmer. The edges of the ice are becoming soft, unstable and there is now open water around most edges.   Please do not venture out onto the ice, unless you absolutely need to. Open water is getting greater as well. We have had a few boats launch from Jet Ski Beach and Coyote Cove. The East Boat

Expected to Be Covered Completly in Ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
At last report, the reservoir was 90% covered in unsafe ice, though expect it to be completely covered in ice.  If you want to give it a try, be sure to drill test holes.

The Collection Ditch Has Plenty of Open Water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The collection ditch has plenty of open water for fishing, but travel is through Secret Pass as Harrison is snowed in.  Anglers report catching fish averaging 12 to 16 inches at the collection ditch using balanced leeches.  Water level in the collection ditch has improved but it has been a bit turbid which is good news for anglers.  However, with the colder weather, it should

Ice Has Improved and is Averaging 8 Inches

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The ice is much improved averaging about eight inches, though in some areas is only five or six, but much better than a week ago.  Anglers should still use caution around the pressure ridges, which can open up any time.  Very little change in fishing conditions though as anglers fishing the Hendricks arm are doing well for both perch and trout.  Perch were being caught

Expected to Be Covered in Unsafe Ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
No recent report, but this lake often mimics South Fork so expect it to be covered in unsafe ice. Like South Fork, give it some more time for the ice to thicken.  Expect the road to be 4WD only with the recent precipitation.

There Isn’t Any Open Water on the Lake, But The Ice is Unsafe

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
There isn’t any open water on the lake, but the ice is unsafe.  Give it another week or so before venturing upon it.  Once there is safe ice, expect trout fishing to be good.  Fishing below the dam in the river has been slow with very low flows. South Fork was stocked with almost 107,000 trout in 2020.

No Recent Reports, But Expect Unsafe Ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
No recent report here, but expect very unsafe ice.   A total of 4,050 Rainbow Trout were stocked into the reservoir in 2020.  Expect some skim ice along the shore in the mornings, but open water for much of the day.

Expect Ice Conditions To Have Improved

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
At last report Comins was mostly covered with five to six inches of safe ice though there were some isolated spots that have open water and/or thin ice.  Expect it to have improved, though still drill test holes as you advance on to the ice.  Worms seem to work best through the ice though PowerBait can work as well.  Jigging with minnow imitations can also

Ice Conditions Have Probably Improved

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
At last report it was covered with unsafe ice, though it has probably improved.  Drill test holes before advancing upon this lake.  If the ice is safe, dark jigs tipped with worms often works well through the ice here.  Anglers may also have luck with just worms or PowerBait.  Expect it to be unsafe until after New Years.

90% Covered in Unsafe ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The reservoir is 90% covered in unsafe ice.  Fishing is done here until the ice is safe, which may be sometime between Christmas and New Year’s depending upon the weather.

Water Levels Are Low

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The lake is iced over with unsafe ice, except where the aerator is. Due to the aerator and the size of the lake, ice is generally never safe for ice fishing.  The water level is very low so pray for a good winter to fill this reservoir up.

Collection Ditch is Mostly Ice Free

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The collection ditch was mostly ice free as of December 23.  Fishing has been good for 10 to 16-inch trout at the collection ditch which was stocked with approximately 7,000 trout in October.  Anglers report catching fish averaging about two pounds at the collection ditch using balanced leeches.  Water level in the collection ditch has improved but it has been a bit turbid which is

Wildhorse Reservoir Fishing Report and Ice Update

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
While fishing for both perch and trout has been good, the ice hasn’t been so good.  Due to warmer daytime temperatures and sunny days this week, ice thickness decreased, especially off the state park access.  Thicknesses ranged from one to six inches and it is not recommended to go onto the ice off the state park at this time.   Ice in the Penrod and Hendricks

Wilson Reservoir Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
No recent report, but this lake often mimics South Fork so expect it to be covered in unsafe ice. At last report, fishing was fair to good for 12 to 15-inch trout and bass fishing was very slow.  Black leeches  and chironomid patterns were working for trout. or dark green spinners with contrasting spots are working for spin fishermen.  Of course the usual worms and

Road is Cloased and Lake is Covered in Ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The road is closed and the lake is ice covered.  There will be no fishing reports for this lake until late spring or early summer depending upon the winter.

Anglers Are Doing Best Before 10 AM

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
With the warmer temperatures and the wind, the ice receded at Jet Ski Beach and there was a large are of open water for fishing there.  Fishing was fair to good depending upon time of day, with anglers doing best before 10:00 am.   If there is still open water there this weekend, the usual rainbow sparkle PowerBait fished off the bottom using a slip sinker

15 Feet Below Normal Water Levels

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Cave Lake is sitting approximately 15 feet below normal water levels.  The lake is covered in unsafe ice.  Due to safety issues with the dam, water is being kept low and with fluctuating water levels, expect unsafe ice for much of the winter.

Mostly Ice Free

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The reservoir is currently sitting at approximately 40 to 50% of capacity, though it has come up a bit with the recent moisture, and is mostly ice free with shore access for fishing.  One angler reports fair fishing last week here using small dark emerger flies.  For bait anglers, the usual worms or PowerBait would be a good place to start as well as small

Worms Working Best Through The Ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Comins is mostly covered with five to six inches of safe ice though there are some isolated spots that have open water and/or thin ice.  Please advance cautiously and drill a test hole or two in the area you want to fish.  Worms seem to work best through the ice though PowerBait can work as well.  Jigging with minnow imitations can also work.  Anglers please

Hot Spot: Ruby Lake NWR Collection Ditch

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
As We celebrate the #25DaysofFishmas, this Saturday’s Hot Spot is the Collection Ditch at Ruby Lake NWR in Elko County. As cold temperatures set in, area waters are freezing. But the collection ditch is fed by springs that come out of the ground at 51 degrees, keeping much of the ditch open for fishing. Local anglers fish the ditch from mid-December to mid-April for trophy
