Eastern Nevada Fish Reports

Wilson Reservoir Report

by NDOW
No recent report, but chances are there is unsafe ice here and the road at last report was 4WD only due to mud.  With the predicted storm moving through expect road conditions to stay the same.

Angel Lake Report

by NDOW
The lake is ice covered and the road to Angel Lake is closed.  There will be no more fishing reports until late next spring or early summer depending upon winter conditions.

South Fork Reservoir Report

by NDOW
As of Thursday, January 18, the South Fork had more open water than it did ice.  Fishing has been just fair, but those fish being caught ranged from 18 to 22 inches! What little ice there is should be avoided at all costs.  Best fishing appears to be along Jet Ski Beach with shore anglers having some success with PowerBait or worms, while fly rodders

Cave Lake Report

by NDOW
There is approximately four inches of ice here, so drill some test holes before venturing too far from shore.  Expect open water at the inlet end.  The ice should start improving with the forecast colder temperatures and there will be a determination this weekend as to whether next weekend’s Rotary Club Ice Fishing Derby will be held.  That being said, fishing should be fair to

Coming Lake Report

by NDOW
The north lake has unsafe ice with some open water.  The south lake has around three to four and a half inches of ice with some open water at the extreme south end.  Drill test holes before venturing too far onto the lake.  Expect the south lake ice to stabilize with the projected colder temperatures of the next week.

Illipah Reservoir Report

by NDOW
At last report Jakes Creek is covered with five inches of good hard clear ice. The ice is extremely slick, so take care walking on it.  There were no signs of anyone fishing the lake so we have no report on fishing conditions.

Jiggs Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Shore fishermen don’t appear to be faring as well as boaters or float tube anglers as the edges are getting weedy and the fish are hanging in the deeper cooler water in the middle of the reservoir. Remember this is a wakeless water so go slow if you are in a boat with a motor. It is difficult to launch much more than a

Ruby Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Bass fishing for keeper sized bass is good. With water levels up the bass are spread out more so anglers need to move until they find them. Dark plastic four to six inch grubs with sparkles in them seem to be the presentation of choice. Colors include blue, dark red, dark green, purple and motor oil. Fishing in the ditch for trout

Wild Horse Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
With surface water temperatures well above 70 degrees, trout fishing is slowing down and anglers are having their best luck early in the morning before it gets too hot or by fishing in deeper water. Fishing has been productive for boaters who are fishing between 16 and 18 feet deep. Fishing from shore in the canyon that leads to the dam where the

Willow Creek Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing for keeper crappie continues to be fair to good. The road is rough so care should be taken driving here. Anglers report catching crappie in the rocks, fishing a small white plastic grub underneath a bobber. Crappie like structure, so look for submerged brush, willows and rocks.

Wilson Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Wilson has the best water quality of the larger reservoirs in eastern Nevada with little algae growth though the water temperatures are hitting the mid 70’s in the afternoon. Trout were averaging 12 to 15 inches in the lake. Expect similar conditions to South Fork and anglers should use the same presentations. The usual PowerBait or worms work well. Gold, green and

Angel Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The water level has dropped a bit so there is more shoreline for fishing. Bait anglers have seen fishing slow as trout are keying on aquatic insects. Fly rodders have had success using small elk hair caddis, hopper or stimulator with an olive or peacock soft hackle dropper below though any dropper fly with green or peacock herl will work. Small spinners

South Fork Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The surface water temperatures have climbed into the mid to high 70’s and trout fishing has slowed considerably due to this. Even boaters don’t seem to be having a lot of luck for trout. The trout being caught are averaging between 13 and 17 inches with an occasional 20 inch fish. If fishing from a boat, use a deep diving presentation to get

Cave Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
No change here. Fishing has been good for 10 to 12 inch fish using worms or cheese baits under a bobber. Small spinners in black and gold or green and gold have been effective. For fly rodders: hare’s ears, pheasant tail nymphs, prince nymphs, small crystal buggers and Cave Lake specials are all good flies. Mayflies and damselflies are also hatching, so fish

Cold Creek Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing is slow to fair for trout and fair to good for bass. There continues to be a mayfly hatch so BWO’s, PMD’s, hares ears, Adams and Griffiths gnats are all worth a try for fly fishermen. The water level is still good with some of the willows in the water providing cover for bass, so fish for bass near the willows.

Northern Pike – Comins Lake Fish Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
ust a few months ago, Nevada Wild talked about the great success NDOW had eliminating Northern Pike from Comins Lake. Yet, just last month, biologists discovered new Northern Pike illegally introduced back into the lake. These invasive fish could very well decimate what could be one of the best fisheries in the state. This week, Edwin sits down with Fisheries Chief Jon Sjoberg and Chief

Illipah Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
While the water level is low, the lake isn’t losing any more water and the inflow appears to be keeping up with evaporation. Just like the rest of the eastern Nevada reservoirs, the trout fishing has slowed as they move into the deeper cooler water. The usual worms, PowerBait or mealworms should all work. Small spinners and spoons should be good for

Jiggs Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Good water level and fairly clear water have improved fishing conditions at Jiggs Reservoir and fishing is good here when the wind isn’t blowing. Shore fishermen don’t appear to be faring as well as boaters or float tube anglers as the edges are getting a bit weedy and the fish are hanging in the deeper cooler water. Remember this is a wakeless water.

Ruby Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Bass fishing is fair to almost good as the hot weather has the water warming up. The good news is that approximately three fourths of the fish caught are keepers. With water levels up the bass are spread out more so anglers need to move until they find them. Dark plastic four to six inch grubs with sparkles in them seem to be

Wild Horse Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Even though surface water temperatures are above 70 degrees, trout fishing is still pretty good. It appears that the trick is the color orange. Several groups of anglers have had good luck fishing either early in the morning or fishing deeper using orange rooster tails, spoons or minnow imitations. Bait fishermen should use the usual worms or PowerBait for trout. Sherbet

Willow Creek Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The lake is almost to capacity and fishing for keeper crappie has been fair to good. The road is rough so care should be taken driving here. Crappie should be in the shallows among the flooded willows and shrubs though you will lose some gear. Anglers report catching crappie in the rocks, fishing a small white plastic grub underneath a bobber.

Wilson Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The road to Wilson has been graded and tout fishing here has been good while bass fishing has been fair to good. The lake is no longer spilling over the spillway. The water in the lake is clearing and fishing conditions are good. Trout were averaging 13 to 16 inches in the lake. Expect similar conditions to South Fork and anglers should

Angel Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The water level is up, making shore access difficult in many areas due to brush. If you have a float tube, kayak or canoe it will definitely help out. Bait anglers have seen fishing slow as aquatic insects are coming out, though fly fishermen are finding fishing very good. Fly rodders have had success using small elk hair caddis, hopper

South Fork Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
There is road construction south of the state park headquarters so those wanting to access the west side of the lake will need to go in through Twin Bridges. Expect this to continue throughout the summer. The surface water temperatures have climbed into the 70’s and trout fishing has slowed considerably due to this. Even boaters aren’t having a lot of luck
