Anglers caught over 100 fish this past week at Echo Canyon Reservoir

The Free Fishing Day crowd found good action on Saturday with over 100 fish entered into the largest fish contest. While none were the much sought after tagged fish, all those who participated in the annual fishing derby had a great time. Anglers caught both rainbows and brown trout with PowerBait, spinners and various flies.

While there hasn't been much striper activity reported in the Cottonwood Cove area, word is that action has been good for both catfish and largemouth bass. Anglers have had success using night crawlers and anchovies. Near Willow Beach, in the vicinity of mile marker 50, one lucky angler reeled in a 25.2-pound striper on an A.C. plug. Bluegill was the big bite this week at Las Vegas Urban Ponds -- Free Fishing Kids took advantage

A great time was had by all at the various events held around town for Free Fishing Day. The young and the young at heart alike had fun fishing and catching. The bite is on for bluegill. These scrappy little fish are hitting on mealworms, corn and popcorn. Look for the fish where the light bottom gives way to dark grass beds.

Striper & Bass action are both being featured at Lake Mead

Fishing has been steady throughout the lower basin with anglers in the Government and Vegas Wash area bringing in stripers weighing up to five pounds. Most anglers are finding success with shad, anchovies and even corn. Largemouth and smallmouth bass have also provided good action in the Callville Bay area. NDOW biologists are investigating reports of dead carp in the Overton Arm. The

Bass fishing has been good for anglers using flies and black plastic worms on both reservoirs. Shore anglers have caught a few largemouth bass on Dacey, and at Adams-McGill anglers are catching both trout and bass. The bass have started to spawn on all area reservoirs.

Fishing has been excellent this week at Eagle Valley Res. with anglers catching largemouth & trout.

Rainbows are taking PowerBait, small spinners and a variety of flies. Olive Woolly Buggers, Hare's Ear nymphs, and Montana nymphs are catching fish.

Bass and Crappie fishing has been great at Echo Canyon Reservoir

This past week the bass fishing has been great with anglers finding success for largemouth bass and crappie. Lee Pahl reeled in a pair of bass that weighed in at 6-pounds, 3-ounces and 4-pounds, 13-ounces. Crappie fishermen have done well with Gitzits and flies. Rainbow trout are taking PowerBait, small spinners and flies.

More large Stripers are being caught at Lake Mohave

Anglers are beginning to see more stripers in the large category. At Willow Beach, anglers have taken several fish in the 20-pound range recently and one reportedly tipped the scales at 33 pounds. Most were hooked with A.C. Plugs. Bluegill are coming off their nests and taking mealworms.

Bluegill and bass have been seen hanging out in the shadows around the ponds this past week. The fish are taking mealworms, night crawlers, and various lures that imitate bass and bluegill fry. The best action has been found early in the day and in the evening.

Good fishing for Striped Bass in the Vegas Wash area of Lake Mead

Anglers continue to find good fishing for striped bass in the Vegas Wash area. Live shad is the most productive bait, but cut anchovies are a good substitute. At 33 Hole largemouth bass have been hitting Rat-L-Traps and Beetle Spins. The bite in the Overton Arm has also picked up this past week with a pair of anglers bringing in 50 stripers,

The Largemouth bass bite has come alive at Adam-McGill & Haymeadow Reservoirs

Largemouth bass have come alive on the management area. At Adams-McGill one lucky angler reportedly reeled in a five-pound fish and a handful of others in the three- to four-pound class. Anglers also are catching bass at Dacey, Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs. Rainbow trout as large as 16-inches are taking baits as well. Give PowerBait, night crawlers or flies a try.

Bass and crappie have been biting on a variety of lures and jigs while rainbow trout have been taking PowerBait, worms and spinners. Mini marshmallows combined with a night crawler also can be effective.

Fishing at Lake Mohave near Willow Beach has been good between mile marker 49 and 52

Anglers have caught several stripers weighing between the five- and 10-pound mark in recent days, and a few that topped 20 pounds. AC plugs have been the lure of choice. Further south catfish action has picked up along with the water temperatures. The fish aren't too picky. Hotdog slices, chicken livers or cut anchovies has them biting.

Small Stripers have been active at Lake Mead, but larger fish are tough to find

Small stripers are providing anglers with good fishing but larger fish have been tough to find. Cut baits and swimbaits have proven successful in Government Wash, Crawdad Cove and 33 Hole. The catfish bite has been good in the Vegas Wash area and near Stewarts Point, also using cut baits.
