Stocked Rainbows Are Keeping Anglers Busy

Stocked rainbow trout are keeping anglers busy along the Colorado River. The fish are eager to take grubs, spinners and PowerBait in a variety of colors. Anglers are catching their 5-fish limit at Rotary Park and throughout Casino Row. Reports of striped bass and a few smallmouth bass have come in from Sunshine Peninsula. Catfish are hungry for chicken liver, anchovies, and homemade dough baits.

Lake Mead Fishing Report

Swimbaits, topwater lures and live shad are catching stripers in the Las Vegas Bay. In the Virgin Basin, anglers are reporting better striper fishing when jigging spoons around 100 feet. Largemouth bass are taking shad crankbaits or soft plastics on drop shots in the northern part of the Boulder Basin. Catfish action is better at night. The fish are taking shad, anchovies, or stink baits.

Trout Are The Focus

Trout are the focus, though fishing activity has been minimal. Due to ice along the shore, boats are unable to launch. Spinners, night crawlers, and Woolly Buggers are generally productive for trout. Striped bass are hitting trolled swimbaits in the early morning throughout the Boulder Basin. Boils have slowed but are still popping up throughout the Las Vegas Bay and Temple Bar areas. Striper Action Has Slowed Down For Shore Anglers

Spinners and PowerBait eggs are working for rainbow trout at Willow Beach. Striper action has slowed down for shore anglers, but kayakers have had some luck using trout swimbaits in the deeper water. On Mohave, striped bass are hitting crankbaits and spoons but are expected to move deeper in the coming week. Anglers are reporting a few smallmouth bass catches on spinners near Davis Dam.

Black Bass Are Taking Topwater Lures

Anglers are reporting a decline in topwater action for striped bass and are starting to fish between 80 and 100 feet. Others have still had luck with fish averaging 2 pounds when using Zara Spooks in Callville Bay and surrounding coves. Near Hemenway, anglers have found some action with live shad. Fishing is Almost Back To Normal

Days have been warm enough to keep the edges from icing up. A few anglers at Echo Canyon reported doing well catching rainbow trout. They are using night crawlers and rainbow PowerBait. Anglers of All Skill Levels Are Enjoying The Recent Stockings

Anglers of all skill levels are enjoying the recent rainbow trout stockings in the Colorado River. Jigs, spinners, PowerBait and worms have all resulted in catches from shore. Topwater Action For Striped Bass in The Mornings Has Been Good

Anglers are still seeing topwater action for striped bass in the mornings. Other anglers are reporting larger striper catches when jigging around 100 feet. Black bass action is hit and miss, with anglers having the most luck at Callville Bay and throughout Government Wash. The fish are taking crankbaits in shad and crawdad patterns, as well as a variety of floating baits.
