Southern Nevada Fish Reports

The Nevada Department of Wildlife recently stocked trout in the ponds at Sunset, Lorenzi, and Veterans Memorial parks. Trout are taking PowerBait, small spinning lures and spoons. Silver varieties of lures are working the best. With temperatures beginning to warm up, catfish are becoming more active and have hit worms and stink baits.

Silver and green colored jerkbaits are fooling stripers around Kingman Wash and along drop-offs by the water in-take. Anglers are having a hard time finding shad near Government Wash but are finding success with anchovies fished off the bottom. Largemouth bass are still hard to find, but fishing should pick up when water temperatures increase.

Ice fishing remains good, but anglers should always verify conditions before venturing onto the ice. Rainbow trout have been taking night crawlers and a variety of PowerBait options.

 Anglers are still seeing ice along the edges. The water is starting to rise, which means ice conditions will vary by the day.  Fishing pressure has been minimal, but those who get out are catching rainbow trout using orange and chartreuse PowerBait. The campgrounds and all facilities are open.

Rainbow trout are providing most of the action on the river. Anglers fishing from boats and the shoreline are catching their 5-fish limits on PowerBait, night crawlers and spinners. Striper bites are hit and miss, but anglers have caught fish as large as 10 pounds on anchovies and trout swimbaits.

Reports of striper catches are coming in at both the north and south ends of the reservoir. Boaters have been most successful using X-Rap jerkbaits in shad and minnow patterns. Night crawlers and meal worms have been the go-to bait for catching stocked trout. A few catfish have been biting on warmer evenings at Sunset Park. Water temperatures are still a bit chilly for bluegill

Striped bass are biting on anchovies in the Boulder Beach area and near the fishing pier. Anglers are averaging five fish a day and are reporting more bites when fishing anchovies just off the bottom in the evening.  Much of the lake is covered with ice, and the recent drop in temperatures should help keep it that way. Trout are hitting on PowerBait and night crawlers. Striper action below Davis Dam has picked up significantly. Shore anglers are catching stripers as large as 15 pounds using anchovies and a variety of shad colored lures. The water level is lower than usual, so boaters are urged to use caution. Rainbow trout are biting just south of Casino Row. Fish are averaging 12 inches in length and are favoring PowerBait over night crawlers.

Boaters at Willow Beach are catching striped bass in the 10-pound range using jerkbaits fished on down riggers. Shore anglers are filling their 5-fish limit of rainbow trout with PowerBait, night crawlers or meal worms. During the cool winter months, stocked rainbow trout can be found in ponds at Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi, Sunset and Veterans Memorial parks. There is a 3-fish limit at each of these urban ponds. The trout will bite on night crawlers, various shades of PowerBait, meal worms and mini marshmallows. Sometimes a small piece of marshmallow combined with a small worm will fool the wariest trout.

Anglers are reporting good action for striped bass around Kingman Wash. The fish are hitting topwater baits and soft swimbaits. Shore anglers are averaging about 10 fish a day.
