Nevada Fish Reports

There is ice in the coves, but still plenty of open water for fishing.  Boats may be launched this weekend, but the dock is no longer in the water.   However, with much colder temperatures forecast for next week, expect the lake to start freezing over.  The forecast calls for one to three inches of snow on Monday.  Expect the usual chironomids, leech patterns and

The road to Angel Lake is closed for the winter and the lake is ice covered and there will be no more fishing reports until late spring or early summer depending upon snowfall this winter.

Stream flows are down slightly compared to last week and many stations are starting to show ice instead of flows, but there is still open water for fishing.  With colder water temperatures expect stream fishing to be slow to fair and to find ice on the rocks and shorelines. As of December 3, Kingston Creek flows at 2.8 cfs.

The water levels continue to drop at Cave Lake in an anticipation of renovation efforts on the dam in 2022.  NDOW conducted a fish salvage this and moved some very nice brown trout ranging in size from eight to 25 inches into Comins Lake.  Cave Lake is closed to fishing due to shorelines that are very soft and dangerous due to the complete saturation of

With colder water temperatures due to some afternoon snow melt and cooler air temperatures, expect stream fishing to be slow to fair. As of November 26, Cleve Creek is flowing at 4.3 cfs.

Cold Creek Reservoir was salvaged a few weeks ago so that water control structure could be fixed to prevent leaking. When the control structure is fixed, the reservoir will be filled and NDOW will begin rebuilding the fishery in 2022. 

Comins Lake was about 60% ice covered as of Thursday, December 2.  There was plenty of open water along the north and west shorelines for fishing, but trout fishing was just fair due to the cold water temperatures.  Anglers can expect to catch Rainbow Trout in the 16-to-17-inch range but shouldn’t be surprised when they hook into fish that are over 20 inches.  Water temperatures

The dry year that has impacted much of the west certainly impacted Illipah Reservoir, with water capacity sitting at about 50% and ice forming on the lake.  There should still be some open water this weekend for shore fishing, but expect that to end next week with overnight lows well below freezing and daytime highs at or just above freezing.   Anglers will do well

The Truckee River is flowing around 190cfs  through the downtown gauge. The trout are moving into slower water, and actively feeding during the warmer temperatures. Anglers are using night crawlers and PowerBait, presented a couple of feet below a water bobber. Freezing overnight temperatures are yielding ice along the edges in the morning hours. Trout are the anglers’ primary focus, though few anglers have been venturing out to the reservoir. Ice is starting to cover the edges of the reservoir, making it difficult to launch boats along the shore. Spinners, night crawlers, and Woolly Buggers are great for catching trout. Some are still trying their luck with bass and crappie, but no reports either way. For up-to-date ice conditions,

 PowerBait and red or yellow spinners are tempting rainbow trout along the shorelines of Casino Row and designated fishing areas near Big Bend State Recreation Area. Striper anglers are having success with pencil poppers and spoons for fish under 10 pounds. Few anglers have reported black bass hookups.

Willow Beach anglers continue to enjoy rainbow trout action from the fishing pier and nearby shorelines. PowerBait and night crawlers are the most popular choices. Striped bass action is peaking on Lake Mohave. Topwater lures and shad swimbaits are landing double-digit fish out of Katherine Landing and in the Cottonwood Basin. Chatterbaits and crankbaits are tempting largemouth bass. Anglers targeting smallmouth are using green worms

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has begun its seasonal rainbow trout plants. The fish are taking spinners in the mornings and night crawlers throughout the day. There are a few catfish still biting in the ponds. They have been hitting night crawlers and shrimp. Shrimp are a legal bait because they are not considered to be a fish or fish parts.

Topwater action continues for striped bass in the Boulder Basin. Bone-colored pencil poppers and Whopper Ploppers are taking hits. Ned rigs are the go-to setup for black bass throughout the Las Vegas Bay, Callville Bay, and surrounding coves. For a catfish hookup, try frozen anchovies in shallow and grassy coves after dark.
