Nevada Fish Reports

The striper bite along the shores of the Colorado River below the Davis Dam has been very productive. They are running mostly in the 1- to 3-pound range, but now and again we get a nice surprise. The Sceirine is still fishing pretty well, there’s been some good hopper and hopper/dropper action as well as good nymphing. The flows are still decent at about 93 cfs and the water temperatures have dropped a bit this past week. The ranch also fished pretty well this past week though we only had a few clients on the water there. There were some pretty good hopper/dropper reports as well as a few fish caught with crawdad streamers. Anglers seemed however to do the best with small caddis nymphs and midges.

With cooler nights here, the Truckee River is starting to cool down to the low 60s by the morning. The fishing conditions are great until early afternoon, then the temperatures spike. Please respect the fish and only try fishing mornings and late evenings. Anglers should try ESN style nymphing in the morning with peaches and cream, two bit stones, and perdigons. Surface water temperatures are in the mid 70’s and the algae is still there.  If fishing for trout, you need to get down to the thermocline, a cold water barrier, about 15 to 18 feet deep here. Summer hanging on. Record heat for the weekend. Though it does feel like summer is running out of gas. Mornings are cool, afternoons are hot, but that’ll change soon.  Up on Lake Mohave the coves are producing some smallmouth activity along the shelves with the largemouth bass back in the shallows. The Stripers have been active near the dam and up in the basin area with anchovies and trolling with various lures in the white or trout pattern has been producing the best. Striper boils have slowed down over the past week but have still been seen along the canal and in the Yellowbar area during the early morning hours. Anglers have been somewhat successful trolling the lake using heavy Kastmasters, umbrella rigs and deeper diving jerk baits. Lugworms, mackerel and anchovies have been working well form the shoreline to catch both stripers and catfish along the canal

The Sceirine fish pretty well this week with some very good hopper/dropper action going on, chubby chernobyl’s and para hoppers with nymph droppers produced well for several anglers as well as a few fish being caught on dead drift crayfish. Mornings and evenings are still a good bet down there, just like the California side.

Truckee River  The last few days we have smoke is beginning to clear. Maybe the only good thing about the smoke we have all been getting is that it was able to drop the water temps from highs in low 70s.
