Nevada Fish Reports

The Truckee remains in great shape and is fishing very well. The water is starting to cool off and fall conditions are starting to take shape. Kokanee are turning color. Jigging in 75 to 85 feet below the surface offshore from Taylor Creek attracts good numbers of kokes15 to 17 inches, but there are larger fish. The mackinaw bite has improved greatly. Guide Mike Nielsen has been trolling until he finds schools and then jigs. Three anglers caught and released 20 mackinaw on Monday, including a 20 pounder. Good action on mackinaw and kokanee. Mackinaw are coming from 120 to 200 feet deep on Williamson Vortex jigs tipped with minnows. Kokanee are taking No. 2 Buzz Bombs vertically jigged as kokes gather to run up Taylor Creek. (530) 721-0593; (530) 546-4444

Kokanee fishing is very good in the southwest portion of the lake. Find them 75 to 85 feet deep. Some are turning red. Lake trout are taking 3-1/2 ounce jigs from 120 to 160 feet deep in front of the South Shore Casinos, Camp Richardson and Emerald Bay. Most are three to six pounds but some are much larger. This is normal for this time of year and just about perfect. The hoppers are starting to show here as well. Hopper dropper set-ups are the way to go as we get into the fall and lower water levels. As the water gets lower a more stealthy approach is also going to be necessary. Make sure you drift the edges and the shallows before marching
