Nevada Fish Reports

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Valerie or Linda or Patsy at Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400 reported: They were doing good on the color green in the Model Dairy Derby. James Dobson had the heaviest fish (11.88). First place in the team fishing had a total of 62 pounds for 8 fish by 4 fishermen in 1 boat. There were more than 1,000 entries in the derby.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Andy at the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks at 358-6113: One fly guy reported catching an 8-pounder over the weekend. The jiggers are doing good. The boaters are using the usual lures. Fly fishermen are using white/pink colors.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555: I don't have a report this week, we were in Arizona watching major league spring training.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Tim Wilson of the Pyramid Lake Marina and RV Park at (775) 476-1156: A fly fisherman at Pelican Point, last week, caught a 12.4 pounder and two 10-pounders, all on the same day. He was using Woolly Buggers and white or Chartreuse beetle flies.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Jeri Grellman of Sparks of Hog Charters (358-5199): Fishing has been slow. Chris took a client out on Sunday and he caught 4 fish in 4 hours.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: East Carson River: The Trophy Section from Hangman's Bridge downstream to the Nevada stateline, opened year-round, on March 1.

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported: Yesterday (Monday), J. P. Williams caught a 4.2 pound rainbow while trolling the southwest side with a perch-colored Rapala lure. Also, Tom Brown caught a 4 pound rainbow while trolling the north end with a black/silver Rapala lure. They have been catching lots of limits on Rapalas on the west side and north and

TOPAZ LAKE: Diane at the Topaz Lake General Store: Tim Denver caught a 5.8 pound rainbow with a $100 tag. In addition, Wes Adams caught a 5.2 pound rainbow, Doug Douglas had a 4.9 pound rainbow and William Critser had a 3.4 pound rainbow.

HINKSON SLOUGH, NEV:(on the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area): Elmer Bull: They are catching nice-sized bass.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Missy at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): We are now open on Mondays! The water is very high. Lots of people out fishing over the weekend. They were catching lots of white bass. I had reports of 2-3 pound Walleye being caught at Fisherman's Point on lures that look like a minnow. They are also catching fish on different types of

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Mark and Scott at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: There is still ice out there but I wouldn't go out on it. There is open water around the edges. There are no fishermen. It was 10 degrees this morning and it is trying to rain, right now (Tuesday).?Į

Gene St. Denis: Fishing has been slow to good. I've been trolling at Ski Run Shelf at 150-280 feet with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. The jiggers are jigging in water 160 feet deep with Crippled Herring Jigs, tipped with a live minnow. The Macks are running 2-7 pounds.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): Fishing has been very slow. Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400 reported: We've had some nice fish: A 12 pounder by a fly fisherman at Pelican Point, an 11-pound, 14 ounce, a 10-pound, 8 ounce and a 10-pound, 4 ounce.

Jason Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555: The weather is much warmer. It is supposed to be 80 degrees today (Monday) with a light breeze. The fishing as picked up. There were lots of fishermen over the weekend, mostly from shore, and most of the bigger fish were caught by the shore fishermen.

Dave Kirby reported the Trophy Section from Hangman's Bridge downstream to the Nevada stateline, opened year-round, on March 1. A few fishermen getting a few bites. Water is still cold.

Chuck Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported: It's been good. Lots of limits, lots of fish. Most of the action was on the south end of the lake, trolling with nightcrawlers. The hot action was trolling from west to east on the south end. They were trolling high in about 40 feet of water. The shore fishermen down there, also did well. I

Diane at the Topaz Lake General Store reported: Kathy Amundson caught a 5.7 pound (22-inch) tagged rainbow, while trolling about 100 yards from the Topaz Lake Marina. It was worth $100. In addition, David Banner caught a 7-pound (25.5 inch) rainbow from shore on the south end. There were also 3 fish over 4 pounds that were reported.

George and Debbie LaMonica of Douglas County trolled on Friday for six hours until the wind came up. They caught a total of four rainbows in the 1-1.5 pound class. The were trolling lures in about 15 feet of water on the southwest side of the lake.

Truckee River There has been a Stonefly hatch from Trout Creek to Reno. The Stoneflies in California seem to be a little darker in color so Skwala types are best. In Nevada they have a little more gold to them and should be matched with double bead stones and Mercer's Poxy Backs. There has also been everything from March Browns to Baetis hatching as well.
