The water temps have plummeted on the Truckee this week. just 5 days ago, on September 15th, we were seeing temperatures peak at 62 around Farad, as of today they’re hitting just above 56. The Carson is down to typical fall levels and fishing well. Small spinners seem to be the best bet for the remining planters around broken dam. Fly fisherman are finding a few trout on small streamers and small nymphs on light tippets. Some surface activity has been reported early an late in the day.

The east Walker is slowly dropping for the season and is still fishing excellent. Stocking has been strong through the summer. Spin fisherman using bright spinners and small spoons are finding fish in water with a little depth. Fly fisherman with larger streamers in the deeper runs have been just as effective as the spinners. Tight line nymphing has been deadly with mayfly imitations. Hoppers

Our visiting anglers, Les Kern and Steve Berczik, were trolling near the power lines on the Nevada side and landed some impressive stripers. The larger striper weighed 9.5 pounds and measured 29.5 inches, while the other was 8.02 pounds and 27.5 inches. It's starting to get good on the Truckee!

Things are really starting to get good on the Truckee River. It's that time of year. Getting progressively colder, and trouts eating progressively more. Fall. Flows are pretty great for this time of year. Great wading flows. Little skinny on the raft, but manageable. Nymphing will still get you the most fish. Small mayfly patterns, smaller stones, smaller crayfish patterns. Keep in eye for fish looking up

Anglers are catching trout with a variety of spinners and spoons at Dacey Reservoir. Other waters have been catch trout below a bobber with PowerBait and night crawlers. Fishing for bass has been steady at Adams-McGill. The fish are hitting plastics and Woolly Buggers despite seasonal weed growth. Anglers can take advantage of the open dove season to fill the pan with fish and fowl.

Anglers are finding early morning hours ideal for targeting trout and the warmer parts of the day best for bass and crappie. Both bass and crappie are hitting spinning lures and plastics. With cooler weather settling in, action along the river is heating up. Anglers are catching limits of striped bass along the shoreline. Trout-pattern lures, especially jerkbaits, are proving highly effective and drawing aggressive strikes from the fish. For those who prefer natural bait, frozen anchovies remain a dependable option. Near Laughlin Lagoon, anglers are experimenting with a mix of hard and soft plastics to entice smallmouth

The best time to fish is sunrise and sunset. Anglers have found good fishing for bluegill and catfish at Sunset, Lorenzi and Veteran’s Memorial parks. Catfish are chasing after worms, hotdog pieces and stink baits. Bluegill are hitting on worm pieces and PowerBait grubs. Largemouth bass are taking Rat-L-Traps and plastics. Floyd Lamb Park remains closed to fishing.
