Truckee River Fishing Report & Forecast

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee has been fishing well despite the warm water. While the Glenshire area is only fishing well in the mornings, if you get out bright and early you will have a few hours of great fishing before noon. The hopper bite up here has been good to the point where we often aren’t even putting a dropper below it. If fishing down below Boca,

Fishing Has Been Pretty Good on the Truckee River

by RENO FLY SHOP

We’re looking at about 350 CFS for the downtown gauge, the water temperatures have dropped too.  This morning the Water started off at 61°F. Which is perfect, it is nice to have a little cool down after some hot days. You still want to keep

West Fork Carson River Alpine County Updates

by DOUG BUSEY
The river is low but still vey fishable for those that do not mind a little walking. Drifting salmon eggs into the deeper areas has been productive. Down in the Woodfords canyon area I saw a few small rainbows in the faster deeper waters. I spoke with one angler using a copper jon and a prince nymph and had been doing fair. The CDFW planted

Lake Level is Very High

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake is still at a high level, the highest I have seen in a long time for this time of year. Fishing has been slow and a little tough. Trollers, you need to be on the water at 5am and start fishing shallows and work your way into deeper waters by 9 to 10 am. I would recommend the deep drop off on the

BOR begins cold water flows to disrupt spawning of nonnative smallmouth bass below Glen Canyon Dam

by ARIZONA GAME & FISH DEPARTMENT
As a result of warmer Colorado River temperatures, the Bureau of Reclamation announced in early July it would begin releasing deeper, and therefore, colder water starting July 9 from Lake Powell through Glen Canyon Dam. The purpose is to disrupt the establishment of smallmouth bass, which could negatively affect populations of threatened humpback chub below the dam.  The need for these flows was triggered after the

Nice cool weather and easy fishing

by MATT KOLES
Nice cool weather and easy fishing on the Truckee River. Lows haves dipped in the 30's this week. Crazy, coming off the back of a really hot early part of July. Flows are great and it's just nice to be out in the mornings on the river. Very much crayfish time, caddis, and smaller mayfly time. We'll get them nocturnal stones soon in the canyons

Fly Fishing Report for the Truckee River and the Little Truckee River

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We are so incredibly relieved to see the forecast call for temperatures in Truckee to drop this week. Starting this weekend the highs are expected in the mid 70’s, then warming up a bit later in the week. After 2 straight months of hot weather, only broken up by the occasional thunderstorm, not only are we too damn hot, but so is the river. It’s

Flows & Water Conditions: Fair-Good; Water temperatures reach low-70s by early afternoon Clarity: Fluctuating Daily CFS: 243 Fishing Report & Conditions: Fair-Good Crowds have decreased but the water temperatures are rising - It’s best to only fish the mornings and monitor the water temperatures to avoid fish fatality. Up near the dam, big lake midges are pretty ineffective now. We are seeing success in much smaller “Crowley-sized” midges. The slower waters

Solid Fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Solid fishing in the mornings here on the Truckee River. Afternoons not so much.  Been pretty hot, and you really have a small window in the mornings to get out and get some fish. O’ dark thirty to about noon. After that, I’d check the water temps. We have plenty of water, but it’s always good to see what’s happening with them water temps. We’ve been doing

The Sceirine has been fishing well this past week

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The Sceirine has been fishing well this past week, as with the California side it has warmed up a bit but the fish are still very healthy. If it comes down to it we may have to stop bookings on the ranch for a few weeks, we’ll let you know if that happens.

Fish Remain Feisty With Plenty of Energy

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The EW is flowing at about 232 cfs right now. The water temps are starting to get up there pretty high but so far it seems as though the fish are still pretty feisty and releasing with plenty of energy. The mornings and late evenings are going to be the best time to fish with the mid-day time frame being the best time to give the

On-the-Water Report | Truckee River | mid July 2024

by RENO FLY SHOP
Hope you enjoy this week’s On-the-Water Report from the Truckee River from Aden Breckner. I just finished up the day and we had a pretty good day fishing a lot of Stoneflies. Those have started up just in the last 4 or 5 days here on the Nevada side. We’ve been getting out pretty early with the water temp being warmer. It has cooled off since

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
As mentioned above, the Truckee has benefitted from the week of cooler weather and thunderstorms, and temps are topping out around 66 degrees from the Boca Confluence to the Nevada state line. The section from Tahoe City to the confluence continues to see the water get too warm in the early afternoons and fishing here should be limited to those looking to just fish the
