Trout Fishing at Cold Creek Reservoir

Comins Lake is near capacity with water temperatures sitting in the upper 60s with surface temperatures reaching low 70s. Fishing has significantly improved compared to last year, however catch rates on trout are still down. Rainbow trout are being caught by anglers ranging from 15 inches up to 22 inches. The water level at Illipah Reservoir is still in good shape. Water temperatures are in the mid to upper 60s. With warmer water temperatures anglers are encouraged to fish the early morning and evening hours to reduce stress on trout. Anglers should do well on nightcrawlers, PowerBait, spinners and wet flies behind a water bubble. Flyfishers will do well with matching the hatch and throwing

The young anglers fishing from shore in the Big Bend area were Russell and Ethan Mink, Hazel and Reagan Harbin, Dakota Landry, and Jayson Anderson. The heat is here and fishing has really picked up at Rye Patch. The abundant water over the last two years has helped significantly improve the overall health of this fishery. The walleye, crappie, white bass, and smallmouth fishing has been good on bright rooster tails and jigs. The catfish fishing has also started to pickup and should continue to improve. Trout fishing should be fair to good in the pond behind the hatchery and near the main boat landing. Panther Martins, Kastmasters and spinners are recommended. Fishing has been fair to good for trout. Stocked fish include rainbow, tiger and brown trout. Fish are averaging 14 to 20 inches, with plenty of opportunity for fish over 20 inches.
