Riviera Marina Fishing Report

This week, we have some exciting news from the Colorado River. Local angler Pat Dell caught a few stripers while fishing from shore, using anchovies as bait. The largest striper weighed 5 pounds and measured 24 inches. These fish are being caught from Davis Dam to the Nature Center, and likely even in the marsh area. Anchovies seem to be the bait of choice and

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
Renee and I fished the lake starting at 6AM and finished around 1130 AM, as the heat was getting mighty arid in an open boat. We fished the westside with 2 hits. Then tried the south end with 1 snag. We fished the deep east side with 1 or 2 hits. All in all a total fish catch of zero. Unless I count the small

Summer Heat is Gone on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
The Summer heat is gone on the Truckee River. We'll still have our hot days, but its transitioning to Fall. Pine needle season if you know what I mean. It's kinda of an odd time. We really don't have any hatches, trout have been gorging on crayfish, and the streamer fishing ain't good yet.  How do you catch fish then? Well, you don't really need to be out

Flows and Water Temperature of the Truckee River

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We look at quite a few factors when forecasting fishing conditions for the week. Flows, water temps, time of year, cloud cover, wind, smoke and water clarity are just a few of the environmental factors that can drastically change how your day of fishing goes. Out of the many variables that we factor in to our report and forecast, we really keep a close eye

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

I am getting reports of the local striper bite in our area. The stripers are hitting mostly anchovies along the shores of the Colorado River, below the Davis Dam. Our local angler, Russel Mynk, and visiting angler, Mason Rieth, landed some nice stripers using anchovies while fishing from shore. Our parks are great fishing spots to catch a few of these stripers. Rotary Park, Community Park,

Fly Fishing Report | Truckee River | mid August 2024

by RENO FLY SHOP
The river is continuing to drop, but it should stabilize soon. It is currently at 280 cfs at the Reno gauge. While this might feel low compared to the flows this summer it is actually slightly higher than the median daily flow as can be seen in the graph below. The triangles are showing the median daily for each day.  An upside to the lower flow

Not Too Much Change Since Last Week

by MATT KOLES
Rolling right along through Summer on the Truckee River. Pretty good fishing in the mornings.   Not too much change since last week, except that flows have come down a bit out of Boca. Nice in the mornings, hot in the afternoons. Pretty typical for us. So around 475 cfs, here in Hirschdale, and about 350 cfs, in Reno. We have a lot of water stored in the reservoirs.
