Pyramid has seen an uptick in the fishing this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Pyramid has seen an uptick in the fishing this week with the series of storms moving through the area. Cloud cover and wind will be an angler’s best friend out here, and when both are present, the fishing can be excellent. The days when one or the other isn’t there however, it can remain a grind. Late in the week we saw some extreme winds

The Truckee continues to see very strong flows downstream of the Boca confluence for this time of year

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee continues to see very strong flows downstream of the Boca confluence for this time of year, holding at 370 CFS as of today. While the upper stretch is quite a bit lower, it is still fishing well. There’s an abundance of small to medium-sized rainbows along the Glenshire Drive area, making for a great place to find better numbers of fish and even

35.5 lb. Striper

by RUSTY
We have some exciting river news! Angler Mike Bradshaw, visiting from Wrightwood, California, had a successful fishing experience in the Big Bend area from shore. Using a top-water lure in a trout pattern, he landed an impressive striper weighing 35.5 pounds and measuring 43 inches in length. While the fish's weight may seem substantial for its length, it was indeed a great catch. Speaking of trout,

The flows are still in the mid 90’s which is awesome for this time of the year!

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The East Walker on the California side of the state line is closed until April 27. 2024. The Nevada side of the river is open through the Winter.  The Nevada side of the river has been fishing pretty well, at least when the weather cooperates a little. I’ve had several reports this past week of anglers getting into 5 to 15 fish per day, I haven’t

The Mid is firing

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Read Mile's fishing report for the latest and stop by the shop for any last minute supplies. BTW, we received a fresh delivery of Jaydacators today. Crafted locally, by Jason himself = a lot of extra karma points when you head out to Pyramid with these in your arsenal. Swing by the shop and stock up. Fish on!

Pyramid really kicked into gear this week with the shift in weather

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Pyramid really kicked into gear this week with the shift in weather. We are seeing the general catch rate improve, to go along with some large fish in the mix. The beaches with any significant drop offs seem to be fishing a bit better than the beaches with a gradual drop off, or those that remain at a similar depth for a while. These fish

The fishing on the Truckee has slowed down quite a bit this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The fishing on the Truckee has slowed down quite a bit this week with the cold days affecting the water temps and therefore the fish. At the USGS gauge at Farad we saw the water temps drop to 32 degrees for the first time this year. We suspect this will slow fishing down at least in terms of numbers, but one thing that we learned

As of 01/10/24, officials at the State Park measured 7 inches of clear ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
As of 01/10/24, officials at the State Park measured 7″ of clear ice with a top layer of slush near the boat ramp. Ice thickness will vary throughout the reservoir, so continue to use caution and sample your fishing area for yourself.  For a trout bite, try worms and PowerBait a few feet under the ice. The new Nevada State Record for yellow perch was

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
As of 1/11/24 ice is NOT safe at South Fork Reservoir. NDOW and State Parks recommend you stay off the ice. Indicator fishing has still been the primary method of fishing in recent weeks

by RENO FLY SHOP
Indicator fishing has still been the primary method of fishing in recent weeks. The midge bite is still on, but we’re noticing a bounce back to the balanced leech as well. Darker colors have been working well for midges and lighter colors for the leech. Fish have been at varying depths throughout the day. We have caught them from 6-14 feet. We have been spreading

Fly Fishing on the Truckee River through the first part of January

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fly Fishing on the Truckee River through the first part of January has changed greatly day to day. On days where water temperatures have increased into the high 30’s, fish activity has increased. On days that water temperatures don’t come up, fishing has not been great (reference temperature graph below). This is the time of year when you’ll want to pick your days and focus

ICE....or lack there of...UPDATE!

by SOUTH FORK STATE REC. AREA
ICE....or lack there of...UPDATE! We still do NOT have safe ice for ice fishing at South Fork. A couple of individuals have poked holes off of the boat ramp, however, the ice is less than 4" and it is NOT considered safe. The high winds over the last couple of days have kept a good portion of water open along the southwest shore, and a small patch

🚨ICE UPDATE🚨

by WILD HORSE STATE RECREATION AREA
We have been receiving some pretty nasty winter weather this past week which seems to be doing good things for the reservoir. Measurement that we took today are showing 7” of clear ice and a top layer of about 5” of slush/cloudy ice. Remember, these measurements were taken around the boat ramp and are not intended to be interpreted as thickness for the whole reservoir.

Winter has arrived on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Gonna be a cold week with snow and wind. Probably not the best for fishing. Maybe down on the Nevada side, but here in Hirschdale, we’ll be in the single digits at night, and won’t make it out of the 20’s during the day. Too much ice in the guides for me. After this week, for now, it’s looking like El Niño may kick in. That
