Hobart Road Update!

Carson City has planned to open the Ash Canyon Road to Hobart Reservoir in western Nevada on July 16. If you’re unfamiliar with the road it’s good to know ahead of time that even in the best shape, access requires a 4wd with good clearance. Seasonal heat is coming in strong with temperatures expected to soar over 110 degrees Fahrenheit this coming weekend. Fish activity will be at its best during the cooler morning and evening hours. Anglers have been using cut anchovies to catch striped bass from the Willow Beach Fishing Pier. Elsewhere, jerkbaits have been fooling black bass while plastic baits have been catching catfish and smallmouth bass

Great reports back from the first 2 weeks of the season. Healthy trout averaging 17 inches with a few 20 plus showing up already. NDOW crews were recently up at Knott Creek Reservoir checking access, water levels, and working on a fish survey. The reservoir is accessible from both the north and south roads. Just as anticipated, the opener at Onion was excellent. Fish averaged 13 inches but several people found some carryovers to 19 inches. The road from the west side is open to access Onion Valley Reservoir. Recent rains have created gullies and ruts in some areas, so be careful when navigating these areas. The reservoir is approximately 279,500 acre feet. That is almost 90% full! With the rising water level, beach space is extremely limited. Many beaches, such as Beach 7 and Beach 5, are underwater or will be within a few days. If you decide to come out to camp, please be courteous and respectful to your neighbors.
