Fish Reports

Trout have been hitting well off the dam and the south side of the reservoir. Black-and-white Snow Cones and olive Woolly Buggers have been fooling the fish. Water bobbers with night crawlers worked best in the winds over the weekend. Crappie and bass bites will start to pickup as water temperatures rise.

Striped bass are becoming more active below Davis Dam. Fish up to 5 pounds have been caught from boats and the shoreline. Anchovies are a reliable bait, but anglers are reporting success with a variety of swimbaits as well. Rainbow trout are hanging around in shaded holes with vegetative cover. Try tempting trout with a flashy spinnerbait or glittery PowerBait.

Rainbow trout activity is reportedly best overnight and into the early morning at Willow Beach. Rooster Tails are catching fish up to 3 pounds. Anglers are reeling in catfish on anchovies from the fishing pier. On the lake, black bass between 2-4 pounds are biting craws, grubs, and worms fished from a kayak or boat.

Black bass anglers are finding fish in 6-8 feet of water. Fish up to 3 pounds are taking a variety of soft plastics, jerkbaits, and Rat-L-Traps. Catfish are hungry for anchovies and shrimp throughout the Las Vegas Bay. Crappie action is at its peak for boaters in the Overton Arm. Live or plastic minnows are the bait of choice.

The water level is still low. Fishing has been fair to good for trollers. Flashers with a night crawler or a dick slammer have been productive. Rapalas have also been productive, best patterns have been blk/gold or a perch. Shore anglers have been doing fair with green or yellow powerbait. Inflated nightcrawlers have also been successful. The Douglas county boat ramp is open for launching.

The Truckee River flows have increased a little since the last report, 600 Cfs through the downtown gauge. River temps have dropped to sub 50 degrees with the recent storms. Anglers are finding good fishing for rainbow trout. The fish are taking worms and a variety of PowerBait colors. Fishing is picking up as the water level rises. Bass action also is beginning to pick up. All amenities are available for park visitors.

Striped bass in the 1- to-4-pound range have been caught through casino row. Anchovies and trout swimbaits are recommended choices. Black bass anglers are targeting the area of Laughlin Lagoon and Big Bend State Recreation Area. Rainbow trout stockings have ended for the season, but fish are still taking spinnerbaits and nightcrawlers in areas with cover.

Willow Beach shore anglers are catching 1- to 2-pound rainbow trout. Green glitter PowerBait is the bait of choice. Kayakers also are catching trout with Rooster Tails just south of the marina. The bite is picking up for black bass, striped bass, and catfish all over the Boulder Basin. Black bass anglers are reporting success using jerkbaits, jigs, and soft plastics. A variety of swimbaits and anchovies are tempting stripers from both shore and boat. Catfish are eager to take anchovies throughout Government Wash. In the Virgin Basin, anglers using tube jigs are finding schools of crappie.
