Fish Reports

With the warm temperatures there is no ice here and fishing has been good depending upon the day and location.  Small spinners and minnow imitations were producing some fish for spin fishermen, but fly rodders were doing better.  Fly rodders should be using hare’s ears, pheasant tails, prince nymphs, midge patterns, eggs and egg sucking leeches. As of Thursday, January 18, Wildhorse had approximately eight inches of good ice with no snow on top making it very slippery and difficult walking.  Anglers should plan on wearing some traction devices on their boots to keep from falling. With no snow and warm daytime temperatures, the ice is very noisy, booming and cracking, which has probably affected fishing which has been just fair. 

Due to a damaged outflow structure, the lake has completely drained

No recent report, but chances are there is unsafe ice here and the road at last report was 4WD only due to mud.  With the predicted storm moving through expect road conditions to stay the same.  

The lake is ice covered and the road to Angel Lake is closed.  There will be no more fishing reports until late next spring or early summer depending upon winter conditions.

As of Thursday, January 18, the South Fork had more open water than it did ice.  Fishing has been just fair, but those fish being caught ranged from 18 to 22 inches! What little ice there is should be avoided at all costs.  Best fishing appears to be along Jet Ski Beach with shore anglers having some success with PowerBait or worms, while fly rodders

There is approximately four inches of ice here, so drill some test holes before venturing too far from shore.  Expect open water at the inlet end.  The ice should start improving with the forecast colder temperatures and there will be a determination this weekend as to whether next weekend’s Rotary Club Ice Fishing Derby will be held.  That being said, fishing should be fair to

The north lake has unsafe ice with some open water.  The south lake has around three to four and a half inches of ice with some open water at the extreme south end.  Drill test holes before venturing too far onto the lake.  Expect the south lake ice to stabilize with the projected colder temperatures of the next week.

At last report Jakes Creek is covered with five inches of good hard clear ice. The ice is extremely slick, so take care walking on it.  There were no signs of anyone fishing the lake so we have no report on fishing conditions.

The lake level is up and just a couple feet from being full. There is some debris on the lake, boaters use caution. Due to the high water, the shore access is limited around the lake. The larger fish caught last week were mainly from shore with Powerbait. Trollers have been using Rapala's or spoons. Many have been using a small flasher and a 1/2

For the first week of the derby, 100 trout were weighed in over 2 lbs. There were five tagged fish brought in. Remember that each tagged trout brought in no matter what the weight is, is worth $100 cash. Week one results, 1st place is Dustin Parker from Gardnerville with a tagged 9.4 pound 24 1/2 inch trout. Tied for 2nd place is Mark Johnson
