Fish Reports

The level of Squaw Creek Reservoir was lowered during the summer of 2017 in order to make improvements to the water storage capacity.  While reports are that angling is still good to excellent it is expected to be somewhat difficult to access the reservoir as the shoreline is exposed and extremely muddy.  Equipment is also present and operating at the reservoir and will be for

Angling at Wall Canyon Reservoir has been reported to be excellent this fall with good numbers of bowcutt trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, and smallmouth bass caught.  Some smallmouth bass have been reported in the 14-16 inch range and angling with small crankbaits seems to be the most productive.  Anglers trolling rapalas or casting from the dam are reporting success on most trout species.  As

The Truckee is recovering nicely after the drought. Trophy class rainbow and brown trout have been reported throughout the Nevada portion of the river. Summer surveys have shown that trout populations are stronger from downtown Reno upstream, but plenty of great fish have been caught out east. Flows have come down in Reno from over 1000 cfs  to 600 cfs this week. As long as flows

East Fork of the Carson has come down to winter flows and ice has become an issue. Anchor ice is effecting the majority of the East Fork of the Carson River. Stale conditions will likely continue until we see temperatures climb or flows fluctuate and break ice.

With the incredibly wet winter the Nevada Department of Wildlife was able to stock trout at Lahontan Reservoir for the first time in over 20 years. In June 5,500 rainbow trout were stocked on the Churchill County side of the reservoir. Lahontan fish populations were hit particularly hard by the prolonged drought and these trout will give anglers another thing to look forward to this

East Walker Flow is currently at 75 cfs. Fishing has been good even with the extremely low temperatures.  The high water this last winter and spring has really cleaned out the river, pushing a good portion of the mud and sand downstream. Recent electroshocking efforts have shown solid trout populations from the Elbow upstream.  Fly Fisherman are doing well with small mayfly nymphs; Copper John’s, Micro Mayflies,

The reservoir is covered in thin ice. Safe ice fishing conditions should come quick with the below average temps. Check back for ice fishing conditions as they improve. 

The reservoir is currently frozen. Ice fishing conditions will be updated with safe ice fishing conditions.  Note that all tiger muskie must be released and report the tag # to NDOW.  

Ice has taken over good portions of the shoreline. Fishing overall has been slow.  March should bring fair Walleye fishing near the dam and below in the river. After suffering from drought, Rye Patch fishing should continue to improve over the next season.

No new updates. No Lahontan cutthroat have been reported or seen at Walker Lakes since 2009. Launching is not possible right now

Opens January 1, 2018. The Nevada Department of Wildlife has planted 11,000 trout since the lake closed for the season. The water level is very high and is expected to be at almost full capacity for opening day.
