Fish Reports

Angler Nick Balestera checked in with NVFR from Lake Mead. Nick submitted a photo of a Smallmouth Bass. Check out my new personal best on Smallmouth Bass. I caught this “Smallie” two weeks ago using a small jig in about 10 feet of water. The fish is estimated to weigh between 3 and 4 pounds and was 18 inches long.

The road to Angel Lake is closed. There will be no further reports until late next spring or early summer depending upon snow conditions.

No report on fishing conditions, but generally this time of year it is fair to good for 10 to 12 inch fish using worms or cheese baits under a bobber. Small spinners are also effective. Similar to Comins Lake, the warm temperatures have brought about muddy conditions on the roads around Illipah Reservoir and the entire shoreline. Washoe Lake has benefitted from the historic winter of 2016-2017 and has reached levels not seen in over a decade. Fishing will be very difficult due to the lake being dry for several years. The lake is scheduled to receive channel catfish in 2017 and the process to rebuild the fishery has begun. Lucky anglers may have success on white bass or

East Fork of the Carson River’s current flow is 112 cfs near Gardnerville. Fishing will pick up as the flows stabilize and the NDOW hatchery truck will be visiting soon which should make a recipe for success.

The Truckee's current flow in Reno is around 3,000 cfs. This year’s river flows will be substantially higher than they have been in recent memory.
