Fishing has been good here as anglers report catching wipers, trout and black bass. Flows coming into the lake are very heavy running between 30 and 50% above normal. Fishing has been fair to good for 10 to 13 inch fish using the usual worms and PowerBait. Fish have been seen dimpling the surface, probably taking midges or mayfly emergers. Fly rodders should use the usual assortment of prince nymphs, PT nymphs, hare’s ears, small buggers, elk hair caddis, Adams and Griffith’s gnats.

Anglers report good success using a variety of styles, baits and presentations. Expect the usual PowerBait and worms to work well. Anglers have been having good success fishing for both rainbows and browns at Illipah. The lake level continues to rise and is more than 50% of capacity and slowly increasing. Trout and bass have been hitting great this past week and taking almost anything thrown at them. Bait fishers have reported that rainbow sparkle PowerBait or night crawlers have been working very well, while the fly fishers have been successful using Woolly Buggers and nymphs. The special regulation mandating catch-and-release for bass continues until June 30.

Crappie and bass have been hitting well all around the reservoir, giving local park rangers trying to tag fish for their Free Fishing Day event a little fun. Crappie, trout and largemouth bass all are hitting a variety of bait, lures and flies. The Free fishing day event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 11.

Boaters have been catching smallmouth and largemouth bass near Callville Bay while working soft plastics in coves. Striper action also has been good. Warm water temperatures will push the fish deep during the daytime hours and will do so earlier in the day than in the recent past. Striped bass are biting, and not just the small ones. Bigger fish have been caught from the powerlines to the dam. A couple of groups went out this past week and landed god fish in the 7- and 8-pound class while fishing anchovies from the shoreline. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are holding in the coves along submerged shelves. Soft plastics are catching the fish.

Flows in Mogul are about 850 cfs average. It was hit pretty hard with2 years of hard drought and really warm water temps. There are some survivors and that's good. If we want the repopulation of brown trout to be there, let them go (tell your spin or bait buddies) FWS dumped in a big load of Little LCT's.. good fodder for the browns and

Topaz Lake is now the highest it's been in over 4 years. I expect it to reach 2012 levels, easily in the next 2 weeks. The bass are starting to show up, buggers, dead drift cray fish. Hoye Canyon is no longer open to the public. Only fishing on the West Walker River in Nevada is Wilson Canyon on 208 south of Yerington. The West Walker is a non-navigable waterway.
