Ice Unsafe

There is no report from Kirch this week, but with warm weather and windy conditions it won’t be long before the ice left on area reservoirs begins to break up. In the meantime, any remaining ice is considered unsafe.

Water is Murky

Ice off occurred this past week, but murky water conditions have led to slow catch rates. Anglers using baits with strong scents are having the best luck. The campground is open with all facilities available.

Rainbows Biting

Colorado River - Laughlin

Stocked rainbows are providing the best action along the river. The fish are biting on spotted Rooster Tails and other spinners. Night crawlers and orange or chartreuse PowerBait have been productive baits as well. Casino Row and Rotary Park have been productive spots with anglers catching limits of fish.

No Stocking Lately

Colorado River - Willow Beach

Due to an equipment failure in its water delivery system, and the subsequent loss of its rainbow trout stocks, the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery has suspended its recreational fish stocking program, which included weekly fish plants at Willow Beach. The hatchery did save and release approximately 11,000 trout in mid-December. Though their numbers will diminish over time, these and holdover fish from previous plants

Windy weather has slowed fishing activity. But as the weather improves, striped bass, largemouth bass and smallmouth bass action should improve. So organize your gear, get your lucky lures out and head to your favorite spots. Early mornings and patience have paid off for striper anglers. Warm water fish are starting to bite, and anglers are reporting good fishing for catfish and striped bass. The cats are taking shrimp or chicken liver. Stripers like white and chartreuse colored swimbaits, Largemouth and smallmouth bass have been biting out of Callville Bay.

The Striper fishing at Lake Mohave is starting to pick up. Check out these stripers caught over the weekend at the 52 MM at Willow Beach.
