Fish Reports

Jim Hartfiel of Just Rite Fishing at Pyramid Lake at (775) 575-7850 (home) or (775) 813-3411 (Cell): Chris (Hog Charters) and I have the same report: We are doing controlled downrigging at 12 feet deep in 20 feet of water on the west side. We are catching fish but nothing super big.

Tim Wilson of the Pyramid Lake Marina and RV Park at (775) 476-1156: The wind is blowing a little bit but it is nice (Monday morning). The fishing has been spotty but they are getting fish all over the lake. No pattern, but the south end is the best place right now. Quite a few fish being caught up to 6-7-10 pounds. George and Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555: It's in the 40's right now (Monday morning) and we've got a few fishermen out already. The fishing is good but scattered all over the lake. Most fishermen are happy whether they are fishing with flies, lures or from boats. Nothing big has been reported.

Valerie, Linda and Patsy at Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400: Most fishermen are catching fish, but nothing big. The biggest fish of the week were an 8-pound, 6-ounce at Blockhouse from shore with a TOR-P-DO lure and an 8-pound, 6-ounce at Spider Point from shore with a TOR-P-DO lure.

Norm Budden, Marty Martinez and Bob McCulloch of Carson City fished mid-week in their chest waders at the far south end of the lake. McCulloch caught and released 12 cutthroat (his largest was 3-pounds, 4-ounces) (26 inches), Budden caught and released 11, and Martinez got skunked, again. They were using various colored TOR-P-DO lures.

Both shore and boat anglers are finding good fishing near Cottonwood Cove. Shad have been seen in coves to the north and to the south of the marina. Trolling with prepared bait in 15 to 60 feet of water continues to be the most productive approach to netting one of the area's plump stripers though anglers are also catching fish by stillfishing with cut bait.

Fish are being caught, mostly by anglers dead drifting small nymph and midge imitations under indicators. A few fish are coming to streamers but nymphing has definitely been the most productive method. You need to concentrate your efforts on slower water areas
