Fish Reports

Boat ramps are a challenge due to low water conditions. The lake has many hazards with the low water conditions, boaters be careful. Although not large, 6 to 12 inches, the fish were abundant and hungry. Some walleye are still being caught. A few anglers are targeting "boils" near shore for 5 to 10 pound wipers that are feeding on the yellow perch young-of-the-year. Fish

Anglers are still catching recently stocked rainbow and tiger trout, although fishing has slowed down due to turbid or cloudy water.

Water is low and the fishing is slow.

With temperatures still high, evening fishing is your best bet. Fly fisherman have been using damsel patterns and may fly imitations.

Although the fish are on the small size, there is still fair to good fishing for small crappie and yellow perch.

Fishing has slowed to an almost halt, although a few anglers are finding cutthroat trolling down to 25 feet.

The Kokanee salmon are showing up. They are in three sizes: 6, 10 or 15 inches. They are 40-80 feet deep in 200-400 feet of water. Use flashers with a Red Magic lure, tipped with a kernel of corn. The Kokanee go deeper as the sun comes up.

I've been fishing 50-200 feet deep at Ski Run Shelf, Camp Richardson and the Tahoe Keys. Trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and minnows. Bouncing off the bottom in a serpentine pattern. Macks are 2-7 pounds.

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): I've been very busy. We have been trolling 100-280 feet deep. We locate the fish on the fish finder and then troll in a "Figure Eight" pattern, bouncing the bottom. I've been fishing at Cal-Neva, Dollar Point and Sugar Pine Points. Getting 2-9 fish per trip.

The water is still holding good and they are still planting fish. Here are some youngster who caught fish: Clairie and Michael Hiebert of San Jose with a 1.2 pound rainbow and a couple of pan sized on Salmon eggs, Gabrielle and Destiny Miles of El Hambra with 3 pan sized rainbows on Salmon eggs and Don Ellwaner of Sacramento with some pan sized fish

Missy Swain and Shirley at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): I can't believe how far the water has dropped, but they are still fishing out there. I have never sold this much tackle in my whole life. There are little White Bass and Walleye, up to 3 pounds, everywhere. ?Į

The weather is great and it is cool at night. The fishing is still good, both from shore or in boats. The perch, trout, bass, wipers and catfish are all hitting. There was a 17 pound Channel Catfish on a worm over by Hendrick's Creek.

A friend and I did pretty well, last week. We each caught about 8-10 fish, working the deeper holes with small flies. Special Note: The West Carson River has Handicapped Access for fishermen at Pickett's Junction (the Intersection of S.R. 88 and S.R. 89 at the edge of Hope Valley).

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Alpine County planted last Wednesday with some monster planters. Gary Cronhardt of Vallejo caught a 6.4 pound rainbow on green Power Bait. Matthew Nelson, 6 years old, of Vallejo caught a 1.5 pound rainbow on Power Bait. Not much going on. The water is low and warm (in the 70 degrees) and the fish have gone real deep. Lots of jet skis and water skiers.

Norm Budden and Bob "Slick" McCulloch fished late last Thursday afternoon. They did not say how they did fishing, but they did report almost running aground on some rocks just under the surface of the water. ?Į

Don Hettrick and Don Quilici of Carson City and Rich Bachle of Fernley trolled there, last Thursday morning. They reported catching and releasing many small White Bass on every lure that they tried. The also reported that the water level has dropped dramatically.

The fishing is still good, both from shore or in boats. The perch, trout, bass and catfish are all hitting.
