Fish Reports

Fishing at Lahontan remains very good. Two anglers were checked Sunday fishing 6 hours and catching 31 white bass, 5 crappie and one largemouth bass. Although not large, 6 to 12 inches, the fish were abundant and hungry. The walleye, although not as numerous, are still being caught. A few anglers are targeting "boils" near shore for 5 to 10 pound wipers that are feeding

Anglers are still catching recently stocked rainbow and tiger trout, although fishing has slowed down due to turbid or cloudy water.

Evening fishing is good. Fly fisherman have been using damsel patterns and may fly imitations.

Fair to good fishing for small crappie and yellow perch ??? fish are small.

Fishing remains good for walleye on the reservoir side of the dam as well as on the downstream side of the Pitt-Taylor Dam, but is starting to slow down. Try using Crank Baits for Walleye. Wiper fishing is sporadic, although it can be good once the fish are located. A few anglers report excellent crappie fishing around structure.

Fishing has slowed to an almost halt, although a few anglers are finding cutthroat trolling down to 25 feet.

Lots of action not much size. Anglers report 100 fish days with only a few keepers, though the occasional 15 incher is taken. Best time of day is late early evening.

Water level is dropping and the water is turning green with algae. Be careful of the island off of the boat ramp as it is just emerging from the water. Also prop rock in the canyon is about 6 inches under water so be careful there as well. Trout fair-early mornings are best. Perch fair to good.

This water isn't getting much pressure but fishing should be fair to good for bass and fair for trout. Best time to fish is early morning.

Fishing has been fair to good with the best fishing being first thing in the morning and then again in the evening.

Fishing is consistent as always, you just need to fish in the early morning to beat the heat. Small flies, worms and spinners are all working.

Like most northern Nevada waters fish during the coolest part of the day, the early morning and fishing should be fair to good. The usual baits are working.

Warm water temperatures have the rainbow trout holding in deeper, cooler water. Anglers are still taking fish, but the catch rate is much slower than in the recent past and will probably remain slow into early September. PowerBait and night crawlers are probably the best option.

Anglers working the weed beds in front of the dam have been taking largemouth bass, trout and even a few crappie. PowerBait and mini marshmallows have been effective on trout. For bass try plastics or spinner baits and cast to the weeds.

Recent thunderstorms have resulted in washed out roads and debris covered parking areas, but some anglers have made their way to Willow Beach. Check conditions before making the drive. The trout bite has been sporadic with shore anglers finding some success with a variety of baits from plastic worms to spinners to PowerBait. Topwater action is heating up. Anglers have been taking fish in the areas near Sand Island, Government Wash and Boxcar Cove. Most are smaller fish in the one- to two-pound class. Shad have moved in along the Boulder Beach area and this should improve fishing opportunities for shore fishermen. Catfish have been taking bait near Vegas Wash, and anglers have been catching some largemouth bass

Gene St. Denis: I've been fishing 50-200 feet deep at Ski Run Shelf, Camp Richardson and the Tahoe Keys. Trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and minnows. Bouncing off the bottom in a serpentine pattern. Macks are 2-7 pounds.

Gene St. Denis: Trolling for Mackinaw 60-150 feet deep with flashers and minnows.

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Sunday, it was about 85 degrees with a nice breeze. On the 18th, Lucas and Ray Taroli of Oregon used Salmon eggs and nightcrawlers to catch 7 rainbows that totaled 20 pounds. On the 19th, a youngster, "Junior," used Salmon eggs to catch 4 rainbows. Brian Arline of Roseville caught a 4.8 pound rainbow

Chuck and Linda Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): Not much going on, out here. With this hot weather, all we have is lots of jet skis and water skiers.
