Current Water Conditions
Flows on the Little Truckee between Stampede and Boca have leveled out for now, but are still high at approximately 157 CFS. Conditions are favorable for wading and the water clarity is clear. Fishing is good all day with the various hatches anglers are seeing throughout the day. Best times to fish are still early mornings and last light. Expect angler traffic to be high this 4th of July weekend.
Water Temperatures
Water temps are averaging in the mid 50s°F. Temperatures won’t change much for the rest of the season with this being a tailwater fishery.
Hatches
Anglers will see a variety of pale morning duns, midges, and green drakes hatching in the mornings and evenings. Green drakes are more prominent in the evenings.
Effective Tactics
Anglers can have success with both indicator nymphing or dry fly fishing on the Little Truckee River right now. Nymphing with an indicator in the deeper pools with nymphs like Zebra Midges, San Juan Worms, or Glowbugs can produce some bites. In the mornings and evenings, fish are rising and dry fly fishing with midges and green drakes can also produce some nice fish. With the trout spawn just finishing recently, please be mindful of the reds while fishing.
Catch Report
Water levels have been decreased a bit, so the best bite is in between Stampede and Boca. Nice quality rainbows and the occasional brown trout.
