Bring In The New Year At The Topaz Opener

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
If you're looking for something to do on New Year's Day other than sitting on the couch watching football, you should try heading out to the season opener at Topaz Lake. The lake has been closed to fishing since September 30, but it will be open for fishing again on Jan. 1 in one of Nevada's more unique ways to celebrate New Year's Day. "To most

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by LIZ WEIRAUCH
Topaz Lake opens in 2 short weeks (okay, plus one day... geeze). Weather Forecast is for the 31st (yah, no forecast out for the 1st yet), according to my handy dandy InAccurate weather, is a sunny 51 degrees with a 15% chance of precipitation. We have a FEW openings in the rod repair department... if you have something that you forgot about last season, get it in!

Gorgeous Day at Tahoe

by HANS MOXLEY
Fishing Guide Hans Moxley checked in with an update from Lake Tahoe. Today we had gorgeous weather on the lake and the fishing was very good too. We had two limits of Mackinaw today!

The wind and the chill has been a challenge. But for those that do accept the a little chill in the air, the reward is great. I talked with Gene St Denis last week. Gene said they had three fish on that were so big, they could not land them. Average mackinaw have been 2 to 5 pounds. Best areas have been on the

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
As of today, the lake has been planted with over 15,000 pounds of trout from the Nevada Department of Wildlife. I have not received the information on the derby as of yet. I will pass that along in my next report. The lake is closed to fishing until January 1, 2017. If you plan on making reservations for the opener I would recommend to do

Carson River East Fork (NV) Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The NDOW has planted the river in the Douglas county area with catchable rainbow trout.

Carson River Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
East Fork of the Carson River’s current flow is 112 cfs near Gardnerville. Fishing will pick up as the flows stabilize and the NDOW hatchery truck will be visiting soon which should make a recipe for success.

Lake Tahoe Fishing Report

Lake Tahoe is the place to be if you are fishing from a boat in northern Nevada. It may be one of the few places you still can launch a boat and catch a fish. Anglers have been reporting good success catching Mackinaw in the 3-5 pound range. Anglers are concentrating in the 150 – 300 feet with white dodgers and minnows. The hatchery truck

Spooner Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
As the temperature of fall start to drop the weed bed around Spooner Lake will recede and the fishing will get better. A watercraft such as a float tube or kayak is the key to unlocking this lake’s hold on fishing. Fly anglers have had luck using black, brown, and green wooly buggers. This time of year anglers will need to transition to an intermediate

Fishing for mackinaw has been rated as very good. As the weather gets colder the mackinaw seem to get bigger. I have caught my largest mackinaw at 39 inches in early December. Favorite areas have been north of Emerald Bay in 30 to 120 feet of water, trolling Rapalas in a black and silver pattern. Cave Rock to the Logan Shoals area will start

Lake Tahoe Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
Great news for fellow anglers, as the Cave Rock boat lunch has opened to public use once again. When the wind is not howling, the fishing has been good for the mackinaw. Most anglers have been fishing the Tahoe shelf to Cal/Neva point in 150 to 220 feet of water. Eagle Rock has also been productive. A set of flashers or a medium silver or

Fishing would be fantastic if the lake were open to fishing. The NDOW has started their year end fish plants. This month they have planted 2500 lbs of Triploid rainbow strain, 2000 lbs of the Incline rainbow strain and 4700 lbs of the Tahoe strain rainbow trout. The lake will open to fishing on January 1, 2017.

Fishing is starting to slow down. Trout were holding at 20 plus foot depth but downriggers were moderately successful during July, lake stratification will get worse during August and trout will be squeezed down until temps cool in the Fall. No bass reports but fishing should be good if you can get a boat out. (county ramp is closed, launching from the beach near the

Spooner Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The weed bed continues to be a problem around Spooner Lake. If anglers do find an opening they should have some success. A watercraft such as a float tube or kayak is the key to unlocking this lake’s hold on fishing. Fly anglers have had luck using black, brown, and green wooly buggers. If you are fly fishing, a floating line this time of year

Fishing has been good for mackinaw. Best action has been off the Tahoe shelf out of Tahoe City or Carnelian Bay to Cal/Neva Point. Star out early morning in 120 feet and move out to 180 feet as the sun comes up. By 9;30 the bite will dropped off dramatically. Blades or flashers with a live minnow has been most productive. Many limits have come

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
A sad day for many anglers because Topaz Lake closes to fishing on October 1st. If you can get out on the last day, I would suggest to fish the south end with Rapalas or a #2 Needle fish lure. I fished last week with a friend and we worked hard and caught 3 fish each with the largest coming in a t 18.5 inches

Limits of Lakers

by HANS MOXLEY
Captain Hans Moxley checked in from Hooked Up Sportfishing at Lake Tahoe. Today we struggled to get out limits but we did finish up with 4 nice Mackinaw Trout for our two anglers today.

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The water level has dropped about 10 feet. The Douglas County Park ramp is still open. Fishing has been good for boat anglers very early AM. Anglers have been using down riggers or lead core trolling in 30 to 50 feet of water with Rapala's or Needlefish lures. Average fish has been 13 to 16 inches. Shore anglers have been doing fair with Powerbait or
