Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
I spoke with Dana Judd this week. He ventured up last week and said the fishing was slow, but did have some luck on nightcrawlers from the  west shore past the bug station. This week, I would wait a little before heading down the shore. With the rains we just got, we don't need anyone to get stuck. For boaters, I would get up a

The lake level is slowly rising at about 3-6 inches a week

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level  is slowly rising at about 3-6 inches a week. The Douglas County boat ramp is open and has only the middle dock in right now. Use a little patience and courtesy launching and coming back in. Shore angling was slow this last week. Most anglers were fishing the south end with powerbait or night crawlers. Trollers were using flashers and worms or

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

This was the first time in 30 years, I could not attend the New Years celebration. I did talk with a couple anglers that enjoyed the day. They told me the water level was down about 10 feet from last year. Which is nice because it gave them some real estate on the east side to camp on. They caught 7 nice rainbows all about

Sam checked in with a new report from Topaz Lake. He was fishing on Friday the 13th and got out in the morning before the wind picked up. It was a nice day, with 7 fish landed, the largest weighing 3.4 pounds. He trolled Rapalas in hot steel and black/ gold colors, which were producing well. Eagles were also spotted in the area.

The lake level has been going up a foot or so each week due to the runoff from the Walker River

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has been going up a foot oor so each week due to the runoff from the Walker River. But compared to last year at this time, the level is down about 8 to 10 feet.  Fishing has been doing well for trollers using flashers  and a crawler or a small spoon. I talked with a couple anglers that caught some nice rainbows

This time of year brings in the larger rainbows and lake trout

by DOUG BUSEY
This time of year brings in the larger rainbows and lake trout. The Ski Run area to Emerald Bay in 25 to 35 feet of water has been productive using big rap baits.  Some anglers have gone deeper off the Tahoe City shelf using a dodger and a live minnow. For more information contact Tahoe Sport fishing.

Fishing is excellent in the winter months

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake is open all year long now, for those that have not heard. Fishing is excellent in the winter months. I troll with an F3 or an F5 Rapala in a hot steel or gold and black pattern. I also use a lead line with a 30 ft leader of 8 lb clear blue Stren line with a small snap on the end, without

Topaz Lake Angler Report

by FISH REPORTS STAFF
Sam checked in with us from a trip to Topaz Lake: Made a trip to Topaz on November 8th  and enjoyed success with beautiful, calm weather. We got six fish today on Rapalas (5 rainbow, 1 cutthroat or bow/cutt). Not too sure which, but definitely not a rainbow. Also got to view a pair of bald eagles in a west shore tree. Fun trip.

The lake level has been going down about a foot a week

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has been going down about a foot a week, it is down 8 feet from this time last year. NDOW has recently planted the lake with 6400 lbs of trout. I would recommend trolling small flashers with a half a night crawler 12 inches behind the blades. Raplas have been very productive on the west and north end of the lake. Special

The lake level has been going down about 8 inches a week

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has been going down about 8 inches a week. I would keep away from the far south end of the lake while trolling. As you may know or you will see. The depths go from 25 feet to 3 feet in a matter of just a short time. Keep an eye on your depth finder. The lake temps have been dropping and the

The river was planted by NDOW recently

The river was planted by NDOW recently. Fishing has been doing well up by the old broken dam and down stream.

Fishing has been fair at Spooner for bait and fly anglers

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been fair at Spooner for bait and fly anglers. Shore access should improve as we move closer to winter. As nighttime temps fall below freezing the shoreline vegetation should thin  out. Boats or float tubes fishing is the best way to get out past the vegetation and deeper water. Salmon eggs and baby crawlers under a bobber should entice the occasional trout, but

The Carson is down to typical fall levels and fishing well

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The Carson is down to typical fall levels and fishing well. Small spinners seem to be the best bet for the remining planters around broken dam. Fly fisherman are finding a few trout on small streamers and small nymphs on light tippets. Some surface activity has been reported early an late in the day.

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
Renee and I fished the lake starting at 6AM and finished around 1130 AM, as the heat was getting mighty arid in an open boat. We fished the westside with 2 hits. Then tried the south end with 1 snag. We fished the deep east side with 1 or 2 hits. All in all a total fish catch of zero. Unless I count the small
