Douglas County Fish Reports

Fishing has been good to fair on Lake Tahoe

by DOUG BUSEY
Fishing has been good to fair. Jason has been catching limits of mackinaws and a few browns. Best areas have been from Cave rock to the north for browns and mac's. Mainly because the NDOW recently planted the lake a week ago with catchable rainbows. Other areas have been off the Camp Richardson shelf with J plugs or Rapalas. For more information or to set

Fishing has been good

by DOUG BUSEY
When you can get out without the "W". Fishing has been good. Most have been using flashers and worms. I prefer to use small Cowbells, gold and silver. They are smaller and less drag for a better fight. Rapalas have been productive on top and down deep. Keep changing patterns and sizes to find the most productive for that day.

Lake Tahoe's spring bite is on fire!

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Lake Tahoe's spring bite is on fire! Water temps hover around 50–55°F, with exceptional clarity thanks to low algae levels—the best in 40 years . Mackinaw are hitting hard between 70–120 ft; troll Rapalas or jig white/chartreuse tubes tipped with sucker meat. Anglers are averaging 3–5 fish per rod . Rainbows and browns are moving shallower—try spoons or flies near shore. Kokanee are staging deeper

Big Lakers and even bigger smiles!

by ROBERT VARIK
Captain Rob with Tahoe Trophy Trout took our family out on Saturday, and we had a wonderful time! Our kid caught the biggest fish—an 8 lb. Mackinaw! Captain Rob was incredibly accommodating to everyone on the boat. We not only caught some fish but also enjoyed sightseeing around the lake. We highly recommend Tahoe Trophy Trout for a fun and memorable family experience on Lake

The lake level is rising very slowly

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level is rising very slowly. Fishing has been fair for those that don't give up too quickly. I recommend changing up your presentation. Colors and size does matter when fish are finicky. Some anglers have been shore fishing down past the bug station with powerbait or inflated nightcrawlers. Even in shore fishing. When fishing a floating bait. Start off with 12 inches off

Fishing has been good at Mitch Pond

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been good at Mitch Pond. It should stay good with more stocking this spring and the warmer weather. Crawlers off the bottom will produce both catfish and trout. Salmon eggs under a bobber can also be good at Mitch. Fly fisherman using small nymphs under an indicator or slowly retrieved has been good for the stockers.

The Carson is the first river starting to show signs of spring

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The Carson is the first river starting to show signs of spring. Flows are up to about 1000cfs making it tough to fish. Large spinners seem to be the best bet for planters. Clarity has been hit or miss depending on the day and temperatures. Fly fisherman are finding a few trout on streamers and large nymphs.

Shore anglers are finding a few trout from shore

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Shore anglers are finding a few trout from shore. Spoons and spinners are typically good options through spring as fish become more aggressive in shallow water.

Lake Tahoe is offering strong spring fishing conditions

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Lake Tahoe is offering strong spring fishing conditions. Anglers are reporting steady catches of Mackinaw (lake trout), brown trout, and some rainbow trout. Mackinaw in the 5–9 lb range are being caught by trolling at depths of 70–120 feet using minnow-style plugs like Rapalas or AC Plugs. Jigging with white or chartreuse tube jigs tipped with sucker meat is also effective. Shore fishing is productive

Brown Trout and Lake Trout Action Heating up on Tahoe

by ROBERT VARIK
We had a strong start to the season with some nice action on Brown Trout. On the maiden voyage, we landed an impressive 8-pound Brown Trout, followed shortly by a 9-pound Lake Trout. Plenty of above-average Lake Trout are being caught, along with a few solid Brown Trout showing up as well. Overall, the bite is looking promising for early season fishing on the lake. The fishing has picked up over the last couple weeks

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing has picked up over the last couple weeks. Mainly from Zephyr Cove to Sand Harbor. A few other areas have been off the Tahoe shelf. Trolling J plugs or a dodger and a live minnow.  Raplas have also been productive from the Camp Rich area to Emerald bay. I recommend either the F11-F13 or a J11 rainbow or black and silver. Talking with

The lake has been fishing well midmorning to afternoons

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake has been fishing well midmorning to afternoons. Flashers and a worm or Rapalas have been most productive. Shore fishing has been slow to fair. Most anglers have been using powerbait or inflated nightcrawlers.

The lake has not risen over the last week or so

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake has not risen over the last  week or so. The boat launch at Douglas Park is open with all three ramps in. The fish cleaning station is open, but the water is not on yet. I counted 26 boats on the water last Sunday at 9am. By 12 pm there were only a handful still fishing. Those anglers reaped the benefits when the

Fishing Derby Returns to Gardnerville in June

by DOUG BUSEY
Hello fellow anglers.  I have to tell you, this time of year is a little topsy turvy when it comes to getting out and being able to fish. Last week it was 62 degrees and in a tee shirt, this weekend we are back to winter and a jacket.  But I do have some exciting things that do come with this time of year. As many have

The lake level has gone up a couple feet

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has gone up a couple feet. The water temp was 47 degrees and the weather on Wednesday was perfect with no "W". The fishing was a little slow to start. Renee and I trolled most of the lake with all of our hits coming in on the east side.  We trolled various colors and sizes of Raplalas deep and shallow. We managed
