Trollers get limits of trout for a day’s work. Flashers and nightcrawlers get trout to 1-1/2 pounds. Trout are in the top 10 feet of water. Shore anglers use nightcrawlers but don’t get many. Topaz Landing (775) 266-3550

Unstable weather has water temps up and down with 45 degrees being most common around the lake. Warmer water will lead to better fishing. Guide Mike Nielsen  has been averaging 2 to 5 browns and 2 to 4 rainbows a trip and then switching over to lakers to finish the trip.Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Mike Nielsen is getting one to three browns per trip from the south shore to Meeks Bay. Largest go to five pounds. Vertical jigging gets macks from 160 to 220 feet down. Water temperature is 47 degrees. As the water warms, the bite will improve.  Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Topaz Lake Fish Report

Bite is slow. Boaters do best trolling the middle of the lake with flashers/nightcrawlers or perch-colored Rapalas. Trout average 14 inches and can be found in the top 15 feet. Shore prospects have been difficult and most are lucky to get one. Lake is 50% full. Topaz Landing (775) 266-3550

(Open Jan. 1st - Sept. 30th): Fishing is starting to pick up. Boat anglers should try using Rapalas and nightcrawlers behind dodgers. Shore fishermen should try PowerBait, Power Eggs, salmon eggs, and nightcrawlers.

As the ice melts fishing on Spooner Lake should pick up.

Carson River fishing has picked up with more consistent flows

The weather has been outstanding for Tahoe fishing. The Mackinaw fishing has been great in all the typical spots. Concentrate your efforts near drop offs and rock piles. Mack fishing brings limits or near limits with dodgers and minnows. Bite has been best late in the morning because of the full moon. Before Tuesday’s snow fishing had been good. Boaters were getting limits of trout in the 13 inch class with flashers/nightcrawlers or black/gold Rapalas in the top 10 feet of water. Nothing large. Shore anglers get just shy of limits with nightcrawlers or Power Bait. (775) 266-3550

Guide Rick Kennedy hit the lake last week and reported decent fishing for mackinaw on the east side of the lake in 30 feet of water, with the water temperature averaging 38 to 40 degrees. The bite has been pretty consistent for the macks, averaging two to five pounds, using spoons and F16 Rapala’s. Saturday, Kennedy fished off Dollar Point and caught some bright rainbows

Fishing is good to very good for mackinaw in the two to six pound range. Dodgers or flashers and minnows offered between 100 and 200 feet will get macks. The Cave Rock launching ramp is clear and 4x4s with chains get boats in and out. Mackinaw fishing is very good. Not many big fish but plenty of three to six pound macks are being caught.
