Elko County Fish Reports

As of November 4, the Bruneau River was flowing at a low 7.7 cfs

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The Bruneau has seen some recovery of flows, and fishing for Columbian Redband trout and whitefish is starting to pick up. But due to the drought expect just fair fishing for fish numbers down. Access will be difficult after this weekend’s projected snowfall. With the wet conditions it is recommended that access be through Idaho. As of November 4, the Bruneau River was flowing at

South Fork of the Humboldt are very low and fishing is difficult except in the pools

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Very little change here as flows on the South Fork of the Humboldt are very low and fishing is difficult except in the pools. Flows have increased a bit. Flows are better below the reservoir and fishing is fair there. As of November 4, the South Fork of the Humboldt was flowing at approximately 3.16 cfs above the reservoir and 8.36 cfs below the reservoir.

The water level is low, the surface water temperatures are in the mid 40’s

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The water level is low, the surface water temperatures are in the mid 40’s and the vegetation is receding. However, shore fishing is still difficult. The bass bite is very slow with the cooler temperatures. Trout fishing is good from a float tube or small boat. A Worm fished under a bobber seem to be the presentation of choice for trout, though small spinners should

As of November 4, Lamoille Creek was flowing at 3.79 cfs

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Lamoille Canyon is passable to the top, however, there is snow and ice above Thomas Canyon Campground and a 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended. With the precipitation forecast for this weekend, driving may become treacherous. Anyone looking to use the trails should come prepared to hike in the snow. Lamoille Creek is frozen from the Terrace picnic area upstream but, there is still a lot

Ice is forming on some of the slower pools

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Flows are close to normal out of Wildhorse dam and fishing has improved a bit in the east fork of the Owyhee. Snow is forecast for this weekend and ice is forming on some of the slower pools. Some of the larger pools have been productive for trout, with those closer to the dam having reservoir sized fish while those further down the canyon producing

Surface water temperatures have dropped into the mid 40’s

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Not much change at the refuge as the water level is still low in the south marsh and the Narciss boat ramp is unusable, though the main boat ramp is. Surface water temperatures have dropped into the mid 40’s and the trout bite is good. The recent front and precipitation have really slowed the bass bite. With the cooler water temperatures, the few bass that

The surface water temperature was 48 degrees on Monday

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The surface water temperature was 48 degrees on Monday, before the air temperatures cooled dramatically and is more than likely closer to 45 now. The dock is still in the water and the boat ramp is usable. Algae and other aquatic vegetation is clearing and improving water clarity though there is still some suspended algae. Fishing for trout has been good to excellent while fishing

Shore fishing has picked up

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The water level is low but fishing conditions at Wilson are similar to those at South Fork with trout fishing starting to pick up and bass fishing starting to slow down. Surface water temperatures are right in the mid 40’s and fishing is good. Shore fishing has picked up and fishing from a boat or float tube has been good. Use the same techniques as

Ice is forming on the lake

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Ice is forming on the lake and the road is snow covered as you get closer to the lake. Both are making fishing here difficult. Expect the road to be closed after the next round of storms comes through.

On Thursday the surface water temperature at the boat ramp was 45 degrees

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
On Thursday the surface water temperature at the boat ramp was 45 degrees and the suspended algae is mostly gone. However, waves caused by the wind had stirred up the bottom and there were plumes of suspended mud in the water on the northeast side of the lake. Fishing the edges of these plumes with chironomids is an excellent tactic. Bass fishing has been slow.

Trout fishing is good from a float tube or small boat

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The water level is low, the surface water temperatures are in the low to mid 50’s and the vegetation is receding. However, shore fishing is still difficult.  The bass bite is very slow with the cooler temperatures.  Trout fishing is good from a float tube or small boat.  A Worm fished under a bobber seem to be the presentation of choice for trout, though small

As of October 26, Lamoille Creek was flowing at 3.63 cfs

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The road is open all the way to the trailhead and there is snow on the ground. Flows in Lamoille Creek are low, about half of the long term median but there are fishable parts in beaver ponds and plunge pools. Fly fishermen can still try dries, but nymphing is probably the way to go where the water is deep enough. In the beaver ponds,

Trout Bite Has Been Good

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Not much change at the refuge as the water level is still low in the south marsh and the Narciss boat ramp is unusable, though the main boat ramp is.  Surface water temperatures have dropped into the low 50’s and the trout bite is good. Surface water temps are in the low to mid 50’s and continuing to fall

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Surface water temps are in the low to mid 50’s and continuing to fall. The recent precipitation and cold spell have caused the algae to dissipate and has trout moving close to shore.   Algae and other aquatic vegetation is clearing and improving water clarity. Fishing for trout is good while fishing for bass has slowed tremendously. Anglers fishing from shore are having success throwing rooster-tails,

Shore fishing has picked up

Expect ice to start forming on this lake in the near future

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
As of Wednesday, October 26, the road to Angel Lake was open.   Make sure to check NDOT’s road conditions map for updates before heading up until it is closed for the winter. Expect ice to start forming on this lake in the near future with it’s northeastern exposure and high elevation.  No recent report but expect good fishing for both rainbow and tiger trout on

Surface water temperatures have dropped into the mid 50’s

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Surface water temperatures have dropped into the mid 50’s and the water is clearing nicely from the summer load of algae.  There is still a bit of suspended algae in the middle and east side of the lake. Fishing for bass is slow with the cooler water temperatures.  If targeting bass, look for structure along shorelines that get lots of sun and fish very slow
