Blue Lakes Update

No reports from the opener. As of 6/12 a large snow drift restricted access from Onion. Fishing should be excellent this season.

Chimney Reservoir Fishing Report

Fishing is fair to slow for walleye, crappie, wiper and catfish. A few walleye are being caught slowly trolling minnow imitations or worm harnesses. Trolling faster with rapala minnow imitations is a good method for walleye as well. For crappie use bright colored jigs in the flooded vegetation. The few that fly fish Chimney Reservoir tend to stick with the chartreuse and yellow Clouser minnows.

Reports From Opener Were Excellent

Reports from the opener were all excellent. The lake is currently full and will likely overtake the south end of the lake as the remaining snowmelt enters the lake. Shore fishing will continue to be good until vegetation takes hold with the summer heat. Fly fisherman using callibaetis mayfly emergers, and parachute adams are finding fishing on the surface early in the day. Damsel nymphs

Onion Valley Reservoir Fishing Report

The opener at Onion was excellent. Spin fishing has been best with a small kastmaster and rooster tails or powerbait off the bottom. Fly fisherman in float tubes are doing well with sheep creek specials and midge larva under an indicator or fishing small streamers slowly trolled behind a float tubes.

Fishing From Shore Has Been Good

The reservoir is currently ice free. Look for hungry trout and the occasional slow moving bass cruising the shoreline during the warmest part of the day. We Should Continue to see Quality Fish

Fishing has been good and should remain that way until the season close.  For the fly fisherman, damsels are still out in good numbers but the best bet has been on leech patterns.  Fishing from shore will be possible again after a few good hard freezes knock out some of the suspended vegetation.  Trolling leech patterns for larger aggressive trout has been the most popular

Fishing has been good and will continue to get better with the falling temperatures. Spin fisherman using small rooster tails, spoons, kastmasters, and mepps are catching trout 12-15”” range. Fly fisherman in boats trolling small woolly buggers, leech patterns, and nymphs continue to pick up fish all day long. Some of the better fly patterns include; sheep creek specials, Zug bugs, and red copper John’s.

Bluegill Fishing Good!

Fishing for both trout and bass has been good.  Spinner baits and top water plugs are the best bet for bass.  For trout powerbait, small spinners, and cast masters are working well.  Fly anglers are catching fish on bead headed nymph and leach patterns. Bluegill fishing had been good.  Anglers are catching bluegill near flooded vegetation using rubber jigs and small spinners.

Bilk Creek Reservoir: Fishing has been good for trout. Trout were stocked in early October. Bass fishing has been fair and will slow down at the temperatures cool.
