Carson forks stuffed with trout

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
East Carson is a bit muddy, but it’s clearing. A 6.8 pounder was caught by a fly fisher in Markleeville Creek. Nearly 2 tons pounds of trout last week were put in to the two forks of the Carson and Markleeville Creek. Creekside Lodge (530) 694-2511. Carson Valley Resort (877-694-2229)

Alpine County Fish & Game will plant 1,800 pounds of trout in the East Carson, West Carson and Markleeville Creek. East Carson has been getting dirty during thunderstorms but it’s fishable. West Carson is very clear and not too low for angling. Creekside Lodge (530) 694-2511

We had a few anglers on the ranch this week and the reports were very similar to the rest of the river, the water is low so you'll need to be stealthy and be sure to watch for fish laying in thin water, hugging the undercut banks and hiding under overhanging willows.

We haven't had anyone on the ranch this past week so those fish are ready for some action! Give us a call if you want to book some time on the private water. 760-932-7707

We've had some pretty good reports from the ranch this past week with a couple anglers racking up 10 or 12 fish per half day, as with the Cali side of the river you'll need to be sneaky and be sure to check out the thinner water, undercuts and overhangs.

The ranch is still hanging in there with the same patterns doing well as reported above, it's starting to get a bit more traffic so if you want to book some time on this section give us a call ahead of time so we can get you on the calendar!

We had a couple really good reports from the ranch this past week including one angler who was able to land a dozen fish between 16 and 19 inches in a half day. The best action has been with dry/dropper rigs, a stimulator on top and a San Juan or flashback emerger underneath.

The ranch has been fishing similer to the Rosachi this past week, again, you'll need to be very stealthy and have your presentation dialed in to be successful, most anglers are reporting 3 to 6 fish per day in the 14 to 19 inch range.

We didn't have anyone on the ranch this week, I'd expect the fishing to be about the same as on the Rosachi section right now though.

The Ranch is also fishing fairly tough though the last client we had down there was able to land 4 fish all of which were over 18 inches, again as with the rest of the river not great numbers but good quality. Also the best patterns will probably be small midge patterns.

The ranch is also still hanging in there, there's only been a few anglers on the property this week but they all seemed to do pretty well. The fish are concentrated in the deeper pools and runs just like the other stretches and anglers who are focusing on those areas are doing the best.

We had a few anglers on the ranch over the weekend and they had a great time, most of them reported landing 9 or 10 fish with most of them running in the 16 to 20 inch range. Dry/dropper rigs were also the best here this weekend with the same patterns as listed above working.

The ranch fished pretty well this week also, with many of the same patterns as listed above doing the trick down there.

The Ranch fished ok this week as well, not red hot but there were some nice fish being caught. Dry/dropper rigs seemed to work the best for the anglers who were down there this week. Again, not really high numbers of fish but some real quality fish up to 18 inches being caught.

The ranch has produced a few good fishing days this past week, most of the action has been on either dead drift crayfish, san juan worms or dry/dropper rigs with a chubby chernobyl on top and a san juan or small midge underneath.

The ranch has also been a little tough though there are some nice fish being caught. With the current water conditions don't expect to have a 30 fish day, but then again, any time on the water is good time!

The ranch hasn't had much pressure lately but the few clients we've had on there have done well with dry/dropper rigs and dead drift crayfish. Some nice fish being landed, some in the 20 to 22 inch range!

As on the California side the ranch is also running very muddy right now, when the thunderstorms start to clear up we expect the river to clear up as well. We'll keep you informed!

The Sceirine is still fishing pretty well, the dry/dropper rigs as described above are the way to go. There are quite a few really nice fish in the mid 20's running around the ranch and with the more limited amount of water compared to most years it's a great place to get on the water without any crowds. If you want to book some time
