East Carson River Fish Report

Flows are dropping fast and are down to 360 CFS. This is absolutely perfect. Fishing should be really good for the next few weeks. Nymphing with caddis, golden stones, midge pupa and little yellow stones are the usual for this time of year. The evening dry fly activity is also worth staying for.

Hinkson Slough Fish Report

Reports from here have varied with the weather. A few bass are being caught so that indicates the water is warming somewhat. Trout will eat a Hinkson Monster Midge or smaller midge imitations such as a zebra midge under an indicator. If you are not catching fish, adjust the depth of your flies below the indicator to fish deeper or shallower.

Flows are down to 36 CFS. It is starting to get really low and clear. The fish are spooky and hard to catch. For best results fish the deeper pools and wear camoflage type clothing. When the East Carson gets this low it is very important to be stealthy. Hopper Dropper set - ups are the way to go here as well.

Flows are 64 CFS. They have come up some over the past few days. Fishing has been decent. The water is clear and the fish are spooky. It is a must to be stealthy and take your time approaching holes. Flows are 134 cfs. Flows are dropping daily. It got a boost from a rain storm a few days ago but it is now dropping again. Nymphing has been very effective in the mornings and evenings. Golden Stones, Tricos, Caddis and Little Yellow Stones are in the system right now. Dry dropper techniques are also worth shot.

Flows are dropping fast. Currently they are 283 CFS. This is a great flow but it is dropping so fast that the fish are a little spooky. Evenings have been producing some dry fly activity. Dry dropper set-ups have been working during the day.

Flows are still in the 700 cfs range. If you look at the flow chart the water is still going up and down about 100 cfs a day. It is probably fish able but with so much else to do wait another week or so to hit the East Carson.

HINKSON SLOUGH The fishing hasn't really picked up at the slough yet, but warmer days should get the fish active. There are fish being caught on large midge imitations and small Wooly Buggers. A few anglers have reported good success fishing from pontoon boats or float tubes and slowly retrieving a pair of nymphs near weedy areas. The Carson has not been fishing very well this year due to the flows but some anglers have had some luck near the broken dam in Gardnerville. Try using Casmasters in gold and if fly fishing try a gold ribbed hares ear or a prince nymph in size a 12 to 14.

Dave Kirby reported that a fly fisherman caught and released 4 rainbows and 2 browns on black and olive Woolly Bugger flies in the deeper holes where the River and Markleeville Creek come together.
